It's challenging to cook off-plan foods for others without tasting it, I feel ya. Most times I used to ask whomever was around for a taste check, other times I'd put it in my mouth then spit it out (if I was checking for done-ness), and still other times I'd just serve it to them un-tasted 🤷🏼‍♀️. You gotta do what you gotta do.

But ya, I wouldn't worry about the accidental "swallow". Since it is the exception so you should be fine ❤️

Did it make you sick? Be careful and don't get any solid food for a couple of weeks post-op. Don't worry about the slip-up, it's not the end of the world.

It DEFINITELY is hard! Everything else is pretty much easy to make. But veggies? It’s hard to NOT taste. But I know better!!

No it didn’t make me sick actually. They were pretty soft. Nothing else since, I’ve been surviving on egg drop Soup.

I find it sad that these men cannot cook for themselves.. I left home young but even before then I was cooking food for my younger siblings while mum was with the babies...

I’m really trying. 😩

baby steps, stop being mean to yourself :P you tasted a bit of cabbage, you will remember not to next time! (or until your tummy can handle it)

You've only just had surgery so your brain has a lot of catching up to do, just a teeny tiny blip and talk to yourself as though you are your own friend. You have huge lifestyle changes to make and it's gonna take time to adjust as everyone has already said :)

Dont beat yourself up, you live and you learn. It takes time to get use to these new rules but eventually you will get use to them. I did the same thing during my puree stage and took a bite of broccoli while I was cooking it to see if it was ready and I instantly threw up.

You're drivin the bus to hell! Ha! Just kiddin!

((hugs))

I put a big fat moratorium on cooking in our house during that time. If it was pre-made, it didn't get done or he had to pick-up or eat out. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
