3 miscarriages since WLS - help!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I’m new here trying to do some research and see if anyone has experienced the same as me and can help. I’m over a year post op from gastric sleeve. My weight loss has slowed and I’m pretty stable where I am.

i have a two year old (pre surgery) and want to have another baby. I’ve got pregnant straight away from trying but keep Miscarrying around 5 weeks. I can’t seem to get past this point 3 times now.

My first pregnancy was text book perfect. The only difference from then to now is my surgery and weight loss. I know they say to wait 12-18 months after surgery but from all I can tell this is just to avoid getting pregnant whilst rapidly losing weigh causing possible malnutrition.

I’m going to make an appointment with the doctor to do some bloods and see if I’m lacking in anything that might be causing the miscarriages.

anyone experience anything similar?

Just sent this to my good buddy who is the Top OBGYN in Naples - he has never heard of a conflict between WLS and conception. WIsh you good luck - I have been thru it from the males end and it is tough, Just hang in there i have two great kids now, but it was a bumpy ride for us also.

Have you been keeping check up of all your Vitamin levels? If your levels are low maybe the baby cannot strive?

Have you talked to your OB-GYN or bariatric surgery about any possible connection?

I'm so sorry for your losses!! ((hugs)) I'd talk to your surgeon about this as well as your OB/Gyn. It could be so so so many things, and maybe not at all related to surgery. I hope they figure things out soon!

I am so sorry. I would guess maybe it's your hormone levels? A lot of us have crazy heavy periods during the weight loss due to increased hormones being released from fat. Maybe that could be the issue. Can you ask your OBGYN to do some blood tests?

Yes I take 150mg of ranitidine. Why do you ask? Is this known to be linked to miscarriage? I was actually perscribed it when I was pregnant with my son as I suffered with acid but that was much later in pregnancy

Thanks for your reply. I’ve made an appointment to see the doctor and request some bloods. Hopefully will know more then x

Yes, it has been, although Zantac and ranitidine have all been recalled over the past few months. It has also been linked to stillbirth and birth defects. I'm actually an attorney filing these cases, mostly for Zantac causing cancer.

Oh my gosh this could be why I’ve been miscarrying. I’m going to stop taking it. I didn’t even know about the recall haven’t heard anything about it in the UK. is Omeprazole safe to take instead?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
