So is anyone here traveling out of state to their surgeon?? Or is everyone staying local?

I am local....only about a half hour my house.

I give a lot of credit for anyone doing this out of state or out of the country- an extra level of planning!!

Local, well, as local as one can say NYC is. I live in Brooklyn, surgery in Manhattan. Depending on traffic, can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours to get there. ITs a 20 minute walk from my office, or 45 minute cross town bus.

I'm local. Although it JUST occured to me that I've always gotten to and from the office by subway. It's going to be so weird taking a cab home from the hospital after surgery. I'm new to this big city life without a car. lol. Funny, how I forget to take these little things into consideration.

Chrisann -- Hope you are feeling better! How'd day one of the pre-op diet go?

This is such a nice site. I'm very excited, I just received my insurance approval today. I have a tentative surgery date of January 7. I've been dealing with my insurance company since April 07. I was denied once, but made it through the appeal process with flying colors!!!!:)

First day fo pre-opt liquid was crummy in the morning, but probably because I hadn't eaten anything all weekend cause I was sick. Had two Slimfast shakes between 9-12 and 2 cups of tea. By 3pm someone suggested a smoothie from smoothie King, 300 Calories, 0g fat, 45g Protein, but 31g carbs. I emailed the nutritionist about it, but haven't received a response.

Wasn't hungry after that until 9:30pm, and had 1 cup beef broth and 2 cups green Beans.

Total for the day: 770 calories, 21g fat, 65g Protein.

Have to do: 1000 calories, 35g fat, minimum 55g protein.

Congrats on making it through your first day of the pre-op liquid diet Chrisann! All I can say is, Thank goodness I don't have any type of pre-op diet

Day three was a little harder, but my own fault. Had pre surgical testing at the hospital at 10, so had a slimfast at 8:30am. Got out of the hospital around noon, so got the smoothie I spoke above about. Ate a few pieces of lettuce and two mushrooms in the afternoon and a 10 cal no fat Jello cup.

Instead of taking a slimfast with me, I went to the lap band support meeting with nothing that started at 6. Didn't get home until 9. So, ate 3 pieces of cheese and 8 triscuits and beef broth with mixed veggies because I didn't stop at the store to get other ones. I didn't want to make a shake.

So, I think I am at about 36g fat, and 800 calories, 60 Proteins, so I am where I am supposed to be, but I am so upset with myself I had the cheese and crackers. I should have thrown them out, but still can't bring myself to do it. Luckily there is only a bit of cheese left.

Oh and 12 days to go........:faint::help:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
