According to Dr. Jason Fung, in order to be in "starvation mode" you have to have lost ALL fat stores beyond that percentage we're never supposed to lose.

:)

So then none of us are in it! Even better!

I'm basing my assumption on strictly calorie intake but what you say makes sense as well. I hear so many people talking about making sure they're not going so low with calories that they're in starvation mode but in reality, most of us are under that threshold.

You can't make that assumption.

You can say some of us are in calorie deficit at 1200 or below... ;) hehe

Sorry to hear of your struggles! How frustrating!

What are your symptoms of dumping? I also have dumping but mine are when I eat too many carbs in a meal and are also related to too much fat in a meal.

What's your current weight? Do you log your food? Maybe you could give us a couple days examples of food and we might spot something for you? How many grams of Protein do you get a day and from what sources?

I second the idea of checking in with your surgeon to r/o any medical issues and also talking to your RD to see if she can help formulate a game plan?

((hugs))

Aww thank you. My husband and I are medical (doctors), so are well familiar with the symptoms of dumping. He says he can see it happening after I eat only about 2 mouthfuls of steak. I go very pale, extremely sweaty, dizzy, and feel like I am going to faint. I get nauseous and I feel like I could lay down under the table and sleep. I agree it is usually sugar and carbs that cause dumping, but Protein dense foods are terrible for me.

Going back to my surgeon is not an option.. He is under investigation for a number of complaints by the Medical Board! Practice is closed and he has been suspended. You know, if I hadn't seen the barium swallow 24 hrs after surgery, I would have almost been suspicious that he had done a bypass instead of sleeve, because of the dumping.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
