Painful Port site...

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery on 11/21...my port site is very sore....when standing, I feel some heaviness on that side and discomfort....how long till this pain passes...I am trying to not use the pain meds...I seem to need to hold that area as I move about...no redness...everything looks like it is healing...besides walking around the house and I am not doing alot...other areas not painful...just wondering when the pain eases....thanks!:(

My port incision was sore for about ten days. My incision was infected and once I started on antibiotics, the soreness stopped. I'm 25 days post-op and have no soreness anywhere and I haven't for a couple of weeks.

The only symptom I had of the infection was that the edges were red and there was a lighter red band spreading out from the edges. My doctor saw me eight days post-op and said I might have an infection and to look for either the darker red or lighter red spreading further. Sure enough, a couple of days later, I noticed the lighter red had spread so my doctor called in antibiotics for me and that was the end of it. I never had fever or swelling.

So watch for infection but otherwise, your should be feeling less pain as each day goes by. If not, I'd call my doctor!

I had that feeling like I had to carry my belly around just to keep that pulling feeling away. Yes - it hurt. I want to say that around 5 days post-op, that pulling feeling subsided for the most part. I took Vicodin up until about 8 days post-op (only one when the pain was unbearable while I was working days 4-8 post-op), but mostly just because parts of my job are physical and getting in and out of a vehicle so much wasn't helping. I'm now 10 days post-op and the port site is FINALLY starting to feel "normal." It twinges a little in the morning and when I'm getting in and out of the patrol vehicle, but feels fine most of the time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
