NCmomof3_fightsback 12 Posted December 12, 2019 I’m 8 weeks post op and down 60lbs . I’ve been walking since before surgery but I want to start lifting. I mentioned it to my surgeon and he was hesitant with the green light. I feel fine. Just thought id ask and see what your surgeon may have recommended. thanks so much! Guest Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) Mine said "listen to your body" She told me I wasn't going to rip out my stomach because her work was that good. After 4 weeks I was back on full duty. I wasn't lifting"weights" per se' but I was doing physical labor. I have to admit I lost a ton of strength and was feeling . weak because I was overdoing it. I failed to hydrate enough, and still do . In short ...just listen to your body. Edited December 13, 2019 by Guest clarity
Losingit2018 1,170 Posted December 13, 2019 My instructions are strictly no lifting over 10 pounds for the first 8 weeks. I would think you should be fine now but your dr really should have told you yes or no. 1 NCmomof3_fightsback reacted to this

Serengirl 176 Posted December 13, 2019 it could tire you out really quickly and dont do anything too heavy but i started back with weights around week 7 or 8 and listen to your body! Even now my workouts are exhausting to me but i workout on average 6 times a week.

Congrats and fantastic weight loss. Everyone’s surgeons’ instructions are different. None of us have the same release to lift time frame. Hope you get the professional green light soon. 1 NCmomof3_fightsback reacted to this
AJ Tylo 1,399 Posted December 13, 2019 I was not released to do cross fit for 5 months - Even today if i push it i can feel the tightness in my little belly, I would take your time and start out doing cardio - I was able to do that 4 weeks post op and just recently have moved on to cross fit = Nothing to do with your post BUT I HATE CROSS FIT! but need to do it to tighten up! That was my vent for the day and i just got done with cross fit so I am crabby 1 NCmomof3_fightsback reacted to this
DeadSpaceGrave 53 Posted December 14, 2019 im post op 2 months also. You don't want to rush extreme lifting though because i have a abdominal hernia from my daughters cesarean that happened 5 years ago because i went working too soon and lifted too much. I goto the gym now but im not bench pressing anything . I started a light workout with a weighted ball that was simply 10 pounds and i would sit on my butt and place the ball to the left , right , then back left again and it didn't strain anything. Everybody is different but just be on the safe side. 1 NCmomof3_fightsback reacted to this
