I think it was 5 or 6 days before I had a BM after surgery.

You're passing gas, so that tells me that your innards are working. Maybe they just don't have much to pass? If you did a pre-op liquid diet and are then on liquids post-op, there's a high probability that there isn't much to pass. Unless you're uncomfortable, then I'd say there's nothing to sweat about.

I'm 5 days post-op and no BMs. My Dr had me do milk of magnesia day before surgery, and having been on liquids since most likely the bowels are still on E. I agree with S@ss... As long as you don't have discomfort don't stress it. Eventually s*** will happen.

Took me a week, and then went out and bought a bottle of Miralax. Well, the threat of miralax might have been enough, because later that day the train came through....now it's only every three days, where before it was a daily train. I think if nothings going in, nothings coming out...

Ducolax, in the little pill form, helped me.

I just had revision to bypass. I was taking dulcolax, Miralax, mom, Smooth Move tea. Was constipated for 5 days until dr office told me to try an enema and magnesium citrate. I was told that if I had not gone by the evening of the fifth night I needed to go to er. You do not want to deal with obstruction or compaction. Nothing to take lightly.

I'm 8wks out from RNY and I'm still taking Colace twice daily and mixing Mirlax in my shakes. If you haven't taken anything then you should start. For me this is a constant issue, hopefully you will start going on your own.

Vertical sleeve. Gas one day after surgery, and BM two days after surgery; had one or two every day since. I was not on a pre-op liquid diet (was able to eat up to 8 hours before arrival to hospital).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
