Inside Brookhaven obesity clinic

I'm watching this show and it's unbelievable what these people are doing to themselves. I guess it's just featuring the cheaters (I hope there are some people there who really want help) I'm wondering who is paying for all these people to lay around in this nice looking hospital and get waited on and then have fast food and junk food delivered. I realize they have food addictions but I can't understand why they are there for help if they are going to rebel all the time. Is anyone else watching?

i am, i saw it last night. I think think that if they are going to be in that kind of facility that they shouldnt have the access to those foods. Its like sending a drug addict to rehab and letting them shoot up whenever they feel like it. Brookhaven is doing an amazing thing for these people who would otherwise die, and it fustrates the crap outta me that they dont care...

I have seen a couple of those episodes. Everyone falls off the wagon or has a cheat meal. I don't have issues with that at all.

I do have an issue with the ones who are just blatant, obstinate, and act like it's all a big game! Watching those shows is one of the reasons I opted to get the band vs. bypass. They can gain it all back - of course we can too if we just stop going for fills.

I dont care for the show because the administrator guy is adamantly opposed to WLS and campaigns against patients having it. There was one episode where he explained his reasoning and was like "it just seems unatural to me."

I saw some of it last night too, and it always gets to me too. I am sure there are plenty of folks that are sincere about following the program, so I don't understand why all the resources are basically wasted on thoes that do not want to comply. It seems to me that as long as the administrators and docs can find the funding, they will treat the patients who get in, regardless of the patient's willingness to follow the plan. I guess there are some things I just don't understand.

Yep - I didn't like that either. And more then once, they called WLS the "Easy way out". H*ll, better then having your health so bad you can't even walk.

He seems full of himself. All his talk about how he's decided how to handle cheaters and all.

I've always been very turned off by that show. You'd think that the administrator would realize that sometimes, the "easy way" is the best way, especially considering the health of a lot of his patients.

now let me read between his lines for you....

I don't agree in WLS because it will not line my pockets when my patients are no longer here.

Job Security! :biggrin1:

I don't like it either - I tuned in and tuned out within a matter of 2 minutes. I agree with the statement of it being the same as allowing a drug addict to get to drugs while in treatment - whats up with that? Sad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
