Hi all,

I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis/Hypothyroidism. Growing up I had hair that could be considered fine, but it was pretty full. I wouldn't say it was thick just average. When I began gaining weight in college I noticed my hair started to thin out. I have noticed it steadily getting thinner and thinner much to my dismay. I have tried shampoos and Vitamins, but I believe the weight and hormonal issues are the cause.

I've read about hair thinning after anesthesia 3 months post-op. It seems like people have had different experiences with re-growth.

My question is, has anyone experienced hair re-growth long term after losing a significant amount of weight when their hair was thinning pre-op?

I had thinning hair prior to surgery, it got worse after. Luckily my hair started out very thick. I cut it short when it was at its thinnest. It is growing back nicely now and I know it is getting thicker because I can no longer blow dry it in seconds. My surgery was over a year and half ago, but it didn’t start growing good until after I had my gallbladder removed in April of this year.

Before the surgery I already had thinning hair and I can only advise that my doctor said it’s going to be like that the first few months then start growing back after. Cut it into a cute pixie or short cut with a light tint should help hide the thinning. I did and it works great

I had thick hair before surgery, but also opted for the pixie cut. The Hair loss (I think I lost about half) was not nearly as noticeable as it would have been with long hair, and now that it is starting to grow back a little, it blends in nicely.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
