Hello all,

I have ran into a issue and need some advice. I have done all my pre op testing, surgery date is jan 28th 2020, Deductible and OOP is almost met I have $900 left but that all resets January 1st Which will leave me scrambling to get my Deductible paid up in just a couple weeks which is $6700 yes i have a very high deductible. I am waiting on the dr. Office to call me back so i can figure out if i can have the surgery before jan. 1st. What can i do to get my deductible paid up fast? Can i go to the hospital and get xrays? I will be covered in full after my deductible is met I dont wanna push my surgery date Out for a few reason and if i can get it before the 1st that would be awesome.

I mean, the surgery itself will be part of your deductible and it'll be well over $6700. You'd be spending that money to get to your deductible anyways if you went and got xrays or something.

I agree with the above poster. The surgery will go towards your deductible, so whether you pay $6,700 from the surgery or $6,700 doing some other medical type thing doesn't matter so much. Then you won't have to worry about your deductible for most of 2020, which is nice!

However, since you only have $900 this year, I'd certainly ask to be placed on a cancellation list to see if you could get squeezed in this year for the cheaper option. That may be very difficult, but it's worth a try!

If you are trying to get $900 covered by the end of the year, an MRI would do it. Do you have a history of Migraines or a bad knee that needs an MRI?

Don’t forget all insurance policies are specially tailored. You have to read the guidelines, my insurance policy clearly states that if my deductible is NOT met, that I’m responsible for 100% of the procedure cost.

Hello Everyone,

I Have A Update So I Cant Have The Surgery before The New year but what i am going to Do is Change My Insurance from Blue Care Network to meridian has Anyone Ever changed Insurance In The Middle Of Their process. I Checked the Requirements And they are the same As BCN except i have To be on a Supervised diet for 6months which ive been on one for a year so no Worries with that its Better for Me To Change My insurance And keep my surgery date For janurary Because with The New insurance After My $1425 deductible Is Met everything is Paid 100% in full and No Co insurance. So the beginning Of the month i have a dr.appt and im gonna Have a MRI and A couple Other things to eat Up That deductible.

Um you better double check because some people I know had to start the diet from the day they started applying for the surgery. They may not take old information.

A friend of mine had to do 6 weigh ins exactly one month apart and could not miss one then had to wait to submit that information.

They're saying if you change insurance you'll have to do the whole process over again. New insurance might not take info not done under them. All depends on their requirements.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
