MsMx3 8 Posted November 29, 2019 Hi! Im new here, had my sleeve done Nov. 22... I'm a week out tomorrow...When I got my sleeve I stayed in the hospital overnight and was in excruciating pain. My o2 levels stayed around the mid 80s to low 90s even on 4L of oxygen (which has NEVER BEEN a problem for me) and I was sent home without a leak test. I feel no restriction when drinking at all and not much of a restriction when eating my soft foods... is this normal? What if everything im eating is mushing out of my stomach and into my abdomen and that's why there's no restriction???? MourningTheLossOfBeer 42 Posted November 29, 2019 (edited) My doctor explained that they do 3 leak test. One during the operation, one where you drink the nasty crap, then they also monitor your port for leaks. Sounds like they missed or elected not to do one of your tests. As to food leaking into your abdomen, I would think you would have been very sick already as stomach acid would be leaking as well. If you're not feeling any illness or strange pains I wouldn't be too worried. But it might not hurt to call your doctor. MsMx3 8 Posted November 29, 2019 My postop book they gave me talked about making me drink grape koolaid and having a drain and the purple would show If i have a leak... i never even got a drain lol...I was so confused when I woke up... I asked my husband if I had been tricked and he just cut me and did no surgery as like a placebo type thing🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Slownstedy reacted to this
Losingit2018 1,170 Posted November 29, 2019 I really think that a lot of these post op books are just never updated. I had sleeve surgery plus just revised to bypass. I talked to my surgeon both times about the leak test. I was told both times that I would be thoroughly tested during surgery and that there was no need for the other leak test. I never had a second test either. 1 Slownstedy reacted to this

Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app Give yourself time to heal and wait until you are eating dense Protein. You will feel restriction. If food were mushing out into your abdomen, you would definitely know it. Yourlungs get weak during surgery due to the anesthesia. If you use that handy dandy spirometer that they gave you for lung exercises, you should bounce back pretty quickly Edited November 29, 2019 by Losingit2018 1 1 lvidacovich and Slownstedy reacted to this
Daisyjayne 124 Posted November 29, 2019 I was never tested for leaks after surgery, I'm assuming they did it while they were operating. Restriction will kick in when you try to eat an egg or chicken breast for the first time! 1 lvidacovich reacted to this

Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app Where did you have your surgery done? Interesting post op book. Not everyone will have a drain after surgery. I’m a sleeve. I was never tested for leaks after surgery. Only during the procedure. One week out are you on liquid, soft, or pureed food stage? What do you eat in a day? How much can you eat or drink in a sitting? How long does it take you to consume it? 1 Slownstedy reacted to this
catwoman7 11,221 Posted November 29, 2019 I never had a leak test. also, like others have said, you probably won't feel restriction until you start eating solid food. For one thing, liquid goes in one end of your stomach and out the other. For another, your nerves were cut during surgery - it'll take them awhile to regenerate. But you WILL feel the restriction eventually. Meanwhile, just eat/drink according to your surgeon's plan rather than chase the full feeling. 1 Healthy_life2 reacted to this

I don't eat much during the day... I'm not hungry, but I try to eat atleast 3 small times. I am so scared of messing something up I only eat a few bites and only eat one egg at a sitting... I can still drink normally...literally a large sonic cup of Water in an hour.Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

[emoji15] The reason you are not feeling restriction is that what you are eating/drinking are slider foods meaning they go right through your pouch. Once you are onto eating a more solid diet you will begin to feel the restriction. Hope that helps! 3 Healthy_life2, MsMx3 and lvidacovich reacted to this
Dances with Carbs 168 Posted November 29, 2019 Bypass here. Had a leak test while they were operating on me. They did an air leak test on my new stomach. I would think that would be pretty standard but every doctor is different. As far as restrictions, I can drink normal. I can't chug but I can put away some serious ounces of liquid in small amount of time. Liquid does not hang around in new stomach. food should be noticeably different for you. ray81 8 Posted December 2, 2019 I also never had any leak tests while awake. I didn't feel any restriction until I started on more solid foods. drinks were easy from the beginning from me. If you were leaking into your abdomen you'd have a lot more immediate signs of that. Good luck in the journey ahead!
