Lightheaded. Not orthostatic hypotension

Recommended Posts

So, since around month 5 post bypass my blood pressure, the upper number, has been hovering around 100. Sometimes under. I get lightheaded when I stand up from sitting or lying down. But, I went to my doctor and they checked my bp lying down, sitting, and standing, and it didn't change. Stays around 100/70. I know we're not doctors here, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this??

Yes, and I get plenty of calories, Protein, Water, Vitamins, etc. It's mostly first thing in the morning and I just steady myself on the wall. I've talked to my dr. and decided it's not a big deal.

Thank you both for your replies! I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this!! It is worse when I exercise, so my personal Trainer has told me to stop for a little while why the docs try to figure out if anything is going on.

I had low hemoglobin, due to low Iron. Needed a blood transfusion. O was light headed.

Thanks, ValerieinMexico. I did have my Iron checked, and I'm not anemic. All basic bloodwork was normal, but I'm having my bariatric team run tests for Vitamin and Protein levels next week, along with some other tests.

Did they check your ferritin stores? I've never been anaemic, my Iron levels are fine, but my stores were 6, they are supposed to range from 10-150. I was always tired and lightheaded until my iron infusion. For years and years no-one checked my stores, until I asked! Now I bore my friends and family banging on about how they need their ferritin checked, so sorry about that 😀

Hi. Daisyjayne. No, they just checked hemoglobin, I think. I have had low ferritin stores before, so maybe you're right! Bariatric team checking that in late December.

My ferritin stores are also always low (until I get iron infusions) not certain if it ever made a difference - before and after

Still following 💚

Light headedness, vision going black, blocked ears (like going up a mountain range), dull headedness... all day every day. Always had a tendency towards low blood pressure & even at my highest weight my blood pressure never went above 120 over 80. Now it’s never above 85 over 65. GP put me on a low pressure medication which seemed to take the edge of the events but after a couple of weeks it was as bad as ever. So off the meds, more blood tests & head scan. All good thank goodness but still no answers. GP & bari Dr want me to have abdomen scan now. Low BP is just as dangerous as high - strokes, organ damage - so keep following up with your Drs. I just want an answer & a solution but am very glad I’m not the only one suffering from this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
