Aodhanmom 20 Posted November 27, 2019 So I finished all of the insurance pre-requisites and I had an appointment with my surgeon today. He says I am an excellent candidate for gastric bypass surgery based on all the consults I had- nutrition, psych. So my doc says he will fax in my paperwork to the insurance company wit a request for authorization. Once insurance approves, they will call me with a date. I know it’s different for everyone and with Thanksgiving coming up it may delay things... but how long did you have to wait before you got authorized? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. 1 Seychelle reacted to this

Tammygirl79 1 Posted November 27, 2019 I have Bluecross Blueshield and after their 6 month requirements, I waited 2 1/2 weeks and got the call yesterday that I was approved for surgery. Bluecross has taken 5 months to approve a claim for me for shots in my neck, so I was rather surprised it came so quick.
Dances with Carbs 168 Posted November 27, 2019 1 week after my 6th month visit insurance approved surgery. I was scheduled for surgery 2 weeks after that.
AZhiker 2,253 Posted November 27, 2019 BCBS of TN. After the 6 month requirement, I was denied because my doctor's office did not send in the psych eval results! I had hoped to get surgery before the end of last year, but because of the denial and resubmission and then Christmas holidays, la di da di da, and then I got a bad cold, I finally got surgery on Feb 6 of this year. It worked out OK, however, as I had all this year to get as many appointments in as I could, since my deductible had been met. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
mcfluffington 179 Posted November 27, 2019 I have BCBS of Illinois too. I think your authorization should come soon. I got my authorization after about six months going through all the rigamarole. My surgery is on the 4th of Deember. It cam right after my psych eval was done. Did your doctor make a tentative surgery date? I hope he made it for this year so your deductible isn't too high. Good luck!
Aodhanmom 20 Posted December 17, 2019 So I got ahold of my insurance who told me today that my surgery is scheduled for Jan 29th, which is odd because the Doc’s office has not called me yet. No worries about the deductible, my insurance doesn’t have one, but I pay huge monthly premiums.
