chim 3 Posted November 26, 2019 Why is straws a bad thing. I can't drink anything from a cup even if I try to sip slowly it goes down in big gulp an hurt my stomach. When I use the straw it feels better. So why are straws band again?Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

kim2girls 12 Posted November 27, 2019 I had the exact thought today - much easier to not gulp when using a straw!!!! 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
Dances with Carbs 168 Posted November 27, 2019 I was also told no straws. I violated this from day 2 after surgery. I did notice I burp more with a straw then drinking from a cup but I also only drink Water so I wasn't that concerned. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

Krimsonbutterflies 661 Posted November 27, 2019 I love straws! I keep them in my office, car, home, I'm always buying them. I don't like paper straws, tried it (weird dissolving mushy texture straw). 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
kim2girls 12 Posted November 27, 2019 I tried straws after I saw this thread and it was so much easier for me to get the liquids down!!! 2 CapyCapybara and Krimsonbutterflies reacted to this
locura79 12 Posted August 20, 2020 Y'all have convinced me to try straws again. Before surgery, I would drink around 120oz Water per day; after, I've been struggling to get 64oz and it's because I'm not constantly sipping water through my straw all day. It's much easier to just take a pull on a straw when I'm doing something else vs. opening a bottle and/or tilting my head back to take in drink.SG 7/30/2020 HW 294 SW 270 CW
Officially Not Fatty Matty 462 Posted August 20, 2020 I never understood the straw thing either. I understand their answer (air) but it’s just illogical. I’m not sucking with my stomach where the air in the straw would get pulled into it... I’m sucking with my mouth where the liquid is deposited in my mouth just as if I poured it in, then i swallow. You can gulp air regardless of how it enters your mouth....
ms.sss 15,733 Posted August 20, 2020 I was told to refrain from straws due an increased chance of swallowing air. With that said, hospital staff gave me a straw when I got back to my room at the hospital...and I used it. 🤷🏽♀️
