Well into my pre op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Having a very hard time. I’m on day 3 and I’m moody and very emotional, extremely constipated and tired. I am hoping it gets a little easier. RNY bypass scheduled for Dec 5. I’m struggling today.

No good thing is given you have to earn it -

The liquid diet sucks - Nobody is going to tell you it does not, you also are experiencing the head games begining. Chill stay focused and get thru hell week, Trust me the reward is great and the journey to being happy and healthy is well worth one week of hell.

sleep, Sex, Movies, Friends use all the tools you can around you to get thru this week. Only 3 more to go and if done right you can sleep half of it away.

Good luck dont give up and you got this

Sorry for TMI, but the Constipation is what’s completely killing me. I’m very committed to this liquid diet and have been journaling and keeping my eye on the prize for sure. But this pain is awful. I bought some Colace and Smooth Move tea praying it helps.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. This process will be worth it.

Seeing as I'm seeing this two days after you posted it, hopefully your Constipation has resolved itself? If not, I would definitely go with the Colace. I've been having a little of it myself and have used my go-to enhancers: milk and black coffee. Since I'm lactose intolerant and don't drink coffee, one or the other usually does the trick for me. If not, the two together do, even if it isn't immediate. Hope you're feeling better.

broth has saved me on this diet! It's easy to get dehydrated when ketosis kicks in and sodium is depleted. I was skeptical at first, but my hunger/constipation/migraine went away once I had a nice cup of Better than Bouillon. Good luck on your weight loss journey!

Well, I’m 10 days post surgery and feeling stronger every day! I feel very lucky because my surgery went so well and I was up walking with no nausea and little pain. Discharged 48 hours later and working my liquids every day. My scale hasn’t budged but I honestly think it’s broken bc all my clothes are baggy and my face is way thinner. Thanks for all the encouragement!! I’m happy to finally be on the losers bench. 😀😀

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
