Does anyone take Echinacea post op?

Recommended Posts

So it’s that time of year here in Fl where the temps change from 50-89 each day, making you feel horrible.
I do not take over the counter meds, so I wanted to go back to taking my echinacea. Today I am 3 weeks post op. I asked my surgeons office if I could take it , ( I went to Mexico, it was wonderful) but, they don’t know what echinacea is...so I’m looking for help from you guys. I just want to take 2. I am not on any antibiotics or anything like that. Just an acid reducer for one more week.
It’s a normal sized capsule, nothing insane.
so would it be okay to take a natural supplement ? Or does anyone take it ?
I really want my echinacea lol thank you!!!
please don’t say ask my surgeon, I have and like I said they don’t know what it is. That’s why I am writing on here.
thanks!!

I don't know that anyone on here is qualified to advise you one way or the other (maybe a nurse? We have a couple of nurses on here), so I don't know if anyone will want to risk telling you "it's fine" when it turns out it isn't, but I DID just do a search of this site and another bariatric forum (using "echinacea" as my keyword), and I did find that there are some post-op patients who have taken it. They didn't mention any particular issues with it.

Another option would be to ask a pharmacist if you want a more professional opinion. They know more about drugs (and sometimes supplements) than doctors, although they wouldn't know as much about bariatric surgery as a doctor would (and vice versa!). They'd know more than us, though...

Echinacea is a natural antibiotic. I wouldn't take it personally. But as @catwoman7 said, none of us are qualified to give medical advice. :(

I live in Naples Florida and Disagree I love the rapid change in Temp thru the day - Especially on this diet makes walking and getting some sun easy.

As for that drug NO clue

Many studies have been done on echinacea’s effect on the common cold. So far, researchers have not found conclusive evidence on its effectiveness. They don’t believe that taking it after you come down with a cold will shorten the time you are sick. Taking it when you are well may slightly reduce your chances of catching a cold.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
