My journey: The Pain of Starting Over

You are two days ahead of me (lap band to RNY) and you are right--it's worse than you expect but I now feel I have turned the corner and just might live...😁

But dang, your surgeon is really aggressive on your post op diet. I'm one week out and overjoyed that I get to eat cottage cheese and watered down mashed taters. I can add meat at week three, but since I'm a vegetarian that's no help. I can eat 1/2 an egg at three weeks, though...and I'm so happy I'm cackling!

Lol, I'm living too. Each day is getting better and better. I have noticed that the more I walk, the better I feel.

I know that's right. I was prepared to do the same as far as eating cottage cheese and other simple foods in that category. I was shocked when he told me all that. I was so happy because I really wanted to try a taste of Thanksgiving dinner. Now, I can. Happy Thanksgiving to you. :)

Having my Band to Sleeve on 12/2. Had my band since 2012. Ready to be done with things getting stuck and constantly wondering if it’s still ok in there or slipped or eroding. Have always struggled with the fact of knowing that there’s something in there that shouldn’t be in there and what could go wrong. I’ve lost 40 pounds in eight years that I have kept off just ready to move onto the next step and get the rest off.

I totally understand. Good luck next week.

So I'm two weeks postop and I'm still experiencing some pain where my sleeve is. It's not bad, but it's still sore nonetheless. It truly amazes and mind boggles me that some individuals have posted saying they are having minimal pain. I know all our bodies are different, but we all just had MAJOR SURGERY; therefore, I know some of you have to be experiencing some type of pain unless you're just not completely human. smh lol

Today I'm three weeks postop and I'm still having pain and discomfort where the sleeve was done. I am barely eating and my weight is still the same. Last week I started drinking Karma Water so that I could have some extra Vitamins and minerals in my system. I actually drank a couple of Vitamin waters last Sunday and Monday which really gave me some extra energy, but I stopped drinking them because it's too much sugar and too sweet for my taste. I love drinking water not sugar. Yesterday I had a headache all day for some reason and this morning it's hurting again. Not as bad as yesterday, but it's a slight pain nonetheless. I have also noticed that even though I'm drinking water it's not enough because my lips are very dry. Today I will try to get more water in.

I started weight watchers and a membership with 24 hour fitness for the new year. It has taken a week but I am finally seeing results. I am so happy the scale is finally moving because I am not eating a lot at all and since my surgery, my tastes for certain foods have changed. My first goal weight is 190 and I can't believe I'm almost there. I just wish this arthritis wasn't so bad because I would love to do more. For now I ride a bicycle, and then I sit in the steam room. Then I finish by relaxing in the whirl pool. So far so good.😀

I can totally tell. Look at your chin and how much larger your eyes look! Your face shaped has definitely changed.

You look great! Congratulations

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
