Hey my loves! When I was banded I was told it would be a great idea to have medical Bracelet that said I was banded in case of emergency. What are your thoughts on having one when you have The Sleeve or the Bypass?

They make some cute ones now. I did order one but I was wondering what others are doing.

Great question. My doc hasn't said a word about it but I had one for my diabetes and epilepsy so it might be wise to get another!

this topic comes up from time to time. Most people don't get them - but a few do.

I have one for an issue with anesthesia but curious why we would need one for a sleeve in case of emergency ? I'm still learning so any info is appreciated, also what site did you order from ? I've only used "Medic Alert" would like reviews on other suppliers

It alerts medics not to push liquids or NSAID if you are in an emergency situation.

thanks for the info, would we just list "gastric sleeve" on the Bracelet ? I'm thinking I can combine it with my current one instead of wearing 2. Can you please share where you ordered from ? I've only used medic alert but would like some options if you were pleased with your purchase

most of the stuff we give in the field is intravenous. If NSAIDS are given in the field orally, it usually baby aspirin, which if your dying anyway wont make a difference. It could save your life.

On a lighter note, I have been in the field 25 years and seen maybe 3 Medical ID bracelets during my career.

3 in total ? Or 3 for bariatrics ? I have a pseudocholinesterace deficiency and can't have succinylcholine doc told me years ago it's important to wear ?

My doctor gave me a card stating that caution should be taken when prescribing medications or performing any gastric or abdominal procedures. It then specifically states "Avoid insertion of a nasogastric tube."

Essentially from what I've been told is that we shouldn't get blind NG tubes since our stomach walls could be damaged from the NG tube and they should always be inserted with a camera.

I have one for my sleeve. I have my surgery type, the date, no blind ng tube, and no nsaids. My medical id card also adds no sugars and my allergies, but these are the super important ones.

I got mine from Lauren’s Hope. I’ve attached pictures but you can customize the info on most of the ones they offer. Sign up for emails and get a discount. Reasons for one include no blind NG as it can perforate the stomach wall because your anatomy has changed. NSAIDS like ibuprofen can cause stomach ulcers and bleeding, and sugar can lead to dumping syndrome. Also, mine says LSG instead of VSG because they’re different scarring patterns.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
