Protein Amount

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was on 2 to 3 shakes a day at your stage, 60 to 80 grams Liquid Protein daily. I was told since the small surface of the new stomach liquid Protein is much easier for us to absorb. With you having only one shake a day you may not be getting enough. I would definitely verify what you should have with your nutritionist. I would drink most or all of it in 20 minutes or so give or take. Sometimes I could handle more at one time other times I could not.

I was dx'd with adrenal hyperplasia too. I didn't take the decadron either. I knew that way was death for me. So I went without and it was pretty hellish. Pre-surgery, I had to be down <800cals to lose. Post surgery the same. The difference is that the surgery helped my body defend a lower weight without feeling like I was starving all the time on 600-800 cals per day. So I was finally able to lose. I do understand your difficulties. We're both outliers. Thankfully, there are others who have different experiences with Protein and their post op diets!!!

It was hellish without the medication and treatment but my body can’t tolerate meds. I need something for orthostatic intolerance aka pots but that does a number on metabolism too.

I don’t fit anywhere, either in the autism spectrum, myalgic Encephalomyelitis community, or here.

But more people have a very normal experience with bariatric surgery with calories and Protein. and should not be afraid of it and learn to adapt to their personal needs.

So agree that we all should adapt to our personal needs!! I think you're doing so great and I feel like you fit in here very well. I'm glad you're here participating!! And I like watching your journey. I do think it's important to share our journeys, even as outliers, cuz you never know when someone is walking a mile in your boots. You know? In all my years, until you, I'd never met anyone else with adrenal hyperplasia. ((hugs))

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
