January 2020 Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

My surgeon changes Akem if these things. This is made by the nutritionist and other people only a small part is by the surgeon. Also there r other surgeons in the same office suing the same material so they have to come to an “agreement” lol and meet in the middle of view and theories what’s best. image-0.0020265579223632812.thumb.jpg.9989bb1d1bdd768c3f34ea5b5162df3f.jpg

Hey Taj I private msg my solid food diet. But idk if u got it. It wouldn’t let me post to the group that day and even when I sent the msg it took forever to send so maybe it didn’t go through?

Hi Sarah. No message received. But thank you so very much for posting it again. I find it so much easier to follow your and BadWolfGirl’s very detailed instructions and sincerely appreciate the help you’ve given me. I’m no longer trying to do 3 meals per day and actually following something closer to your 8 small meals plan because my sleeve refuses to accept more than 1 oz food or 2 oz Protein Shake at one time. I was getting frustrated but both your plans helped me understand that not everyone will be able to eat 2 full oz and it’s okay to go back to purée and Protein Shakes if my stomach isn’t ready for soft foods. Appreciate you both so much!!

Hi Cherice. I’ve decided to follow the plan posted by SarahSingh, simply because I can only eat 1oz in 1/2 hour. So far that’s working much better for me today. Did take 1-1/2 hours to drink a 6 oz Protein Shake but I did get it down and it stayed down. I guess it’s down to we have to do what works for our bodies and 3 meals doesn’t work for everyone. My surgeon’s office actually says 3 meals and no Snacks for sleeve patients. At 1 oz of food per meal I would be starving on 3 meals and I’m pretty sure that’s why my weight-loss was stalled week 4 when I started soft foods. Take it slow and listen to your body. Our fellow January babies have been a wealth of information and help for me.

O yea I can only eat an OZ. I can not eat 2 oz at all. And even an oz I feel overly full. So I just go really slow and stop when I start to feel discomfort. But eating little things through out the day helps get ur calories and macros in. But it doesn’t make you push ur new stomach either. They recommend to start cutting it down to ur solid meals as soon as u can do snacking isn’t a habit.

Even liquids you can't do more than an ounce ?

I can drink 4-6 ounces of Soup no prob. Same with yogurt or something similar. Purees and thicker things are less and take longer but I can definitely have more than an ounce. I had RNY

Full liquids I can only get in an oz. I have little 4oz yogurts (noose brand) and I can only do 1oz also. Water is the only liquid I drink with no type of sweetener in it and I can drink a 12oz nestle bottle in two hours and be comfortable if I push it any faster I’ll feel like liquid in my throat and burp a lot. I had the sleeve. I think with RNY ur fluids go through faster right? So that’s why u can handle more. With the sleeve ours has to sit until the cable opens. Idk what it’s called I forgot. Starts with a p I think. As where RNY bypasses that part and goes straight through. My surgeon really pushes sleeve only. He is getting patients that had bypass 10-12 years ago and even 5 years out they r having to be converted to duodenal switch. His nurse that has been working with him for many years has had multiple twisted bowels and blocked bowels with her bypass. And unless it s center of excellence or an accredited teaching surgeon. The surgeons lose contact with there patients after the first year. My surgeon has follow up and blood work every 6 months after the first year to year three. And then after year three every year.

Yeah it basically goes right through with mine I think! I haven't had any real bad food issues except when I was stupid enough to use suagr free Syrup with sugar alcohols. I died. Lol.

I have a sleeve and I'm not having any problem or restriction getting liquid down. I can easily drink 8 ozs in 15-20 minutes. I won't start pureed until Friday, so I'll see how that goes.

Oh also, the entire reason I had this surgery was bc I have (had?) gastroparesis and severe GERD and bile reflux. I am overweight but in otherwise good health and fit and active. My weight didn't bother me. (I mean I'm not mad at the loss lol) If I was going for weightloss I can see the benefit of the sleeve. I just didn't have a choice.

My bariatric center was an accredited center of excellence too and my surgeon top rated. I really liked him!

Yea GURD sucks. It can even increase to cancer in the esophagus! So smart choice. Me too I am over weight but active nothing except insulin resistant and PCOS which makes ur body act CRZY with any type of sugar. Yes I think the biggest thing is the center of excellence because it’s such a major change in our bodies!

Maybe I’m feeling so restricted cause I could eat more solid foods sooner?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
