Hello All. I am scheduled for sleeve on January 30 with Dr. Udelhofen at Journeylite in Cincinnati, Oh. I am currently on a 21 day "liver shrinking diet" of lots of liquid Proteins, no vegetables or fruits. I have completed all the pre op testing and paperwork, the only thing I don't have is a surgery time. I will only be staying at the surgery center for about four hours after the surgery- they make you walk, drink, and pee, then they cut you loose to a hotel for the night (because I live more than 1 1/2 hours from the center). If I have no questions or issues the next morning I am free to return home.

The first two days of the diet were the worst, I was not tolerating the quantities of Protein Powder in the packets, so on day four I called them and they now allow me to have a few other things such as lowfat yogurt, cottage cheese, or a small portion of grilled chicken in place of a couple packets a day. I am currently experiencing a few days of extreme irritability. I don't know if it's the diet, the nerves, the fact that I am not sleeping well, or what.

My questions right now are about Lovenox injections I have to take for 14 days after the procedure. Has anyone else had to do that and how difficult was it to inject yourself? I am slightly freaked out over that. Also, how soon have people been getting back to work? I feel like pain and healing wise I will be good to go after a week but I'm worried about throwing up at work when I am starting back on puree food.

Hi. Never heard of Lovenox and to be honest, kinda scary that they send you home the same day of surgery. I was discharged the day after surgery and the first night there was a lot of monitoring of pain and also heparin injections every two hours, compression socks to prevent swelling and blood clots and IV fluids the entire time because we’re unable to physically drink much Water. Pre-op Protein diet was only two weeks and I believe that’s the standard for most centers of excellence. That overnight stay in hospital was crucial for smooth recovery. I’m sure you’ll be fine but if you have any concern you should immediately call that surgery center. Wishing you a smooth recovery.

Ok - 2 week post-op visit was yesterday. Down 24 lbs since my last weight check a few days before surgery, so 24 lbs in 26 days. Not bad at all. The NP was happy with my weight progress and my healing. They said I could go back to work on Monday, but I'm not good staying at home, so I'm back at it today. So far, so good.

24 pounds at two weeks is fantastic. !’m only down half that amount and also had sleeve on 1/6. You’ve motivated me to do more walking.

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well! I am officially 8 days post op and feeling pretty good! Am down 20lbs from the start of my 1 week pre op liquid diet which is insane to me! I am going back to work on Monday and I actually can’t wait. I love my house but I’m getting sick of it to be honest. Good luck to everyone starting their journeys and congrats to everyone post op!

Hope everyone is doing well [emoji173] finally got to switch to purees on Tuesday (surgery was 1/8)(cottage cheese and eggs are my staples) and so far so good! Down 13 lbs since day of surgery (I've only been weighing once a week so could be a bit more now). There are some head games still, but overall, I'm extremely happy with my decision to get the sleeve!

(My clothes are already more comfortable and I don't feel like I'm stuffed into them anymore, big win!) Also I've discovered that I can now eat about the same (sometimes less) portions as my 18 month old, so we've been sharing most meals lately, which saves me time and money... score!!!

I take the injections. They r simple and don’t hurt. I inject them in my stomach the fattiest part the needles r tiny tiny and there isn’t much medicine. Some days the medicine kind of burns and some days it doesn’t? The burn isn’t bad but the injection doesn’t hurt from the actual needle.

I was kind of miserable the first night of surgery. Note it was also my very first surgery so I had no idea what to expect. But I know my oxygen kept going down to like 88. And they want is at 93 or higher because it helps us heal. So I’m glad I had that one night hospital stay.

So sorry to hear that you had complications. It will get better-everyone here can attest to that fact. Don’t let the pain get away from you-every time you’re due medication-ask for it. When you get home you’ll be surprised at how fast you’re able to transition to liquid Tylenol. Wishing you a speedy recovery. It’s uphill from here.
Thanks! I'm still waiting to hear if they'll let me go today. I'm so ready to get out of here.

The dietitian at the hospital gave me this little booklet with the 4 stages of food to follow. I am just finishing up 1st week of full liquids post-op (jealousof those who can have pureed food). I scanned it in so I could share. This is what my doctor & dietitian recommended, so if your doctor is different then please follow their advice.

Post-OP Nutrition Guide

I think it has some good information though.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
