Trying to get things together for p.o....

Sippy cups? Anyone use these? I asked my NUT about them, since I saw YouTubers mention them, and she scared the ying-yang out of me saying that it will change the pressure of your stomach etc ... I’m a chugger/big time straw user so it would be nice to have an aid vs puking my brains out until my thick skull gets it

The two week p.o clear liquid diet .... I’m most likely over thinking this now ... but Clear Liquids that can have dyes in them? Also, is there no Protein Shakes during this time? Because they are not clear.

Anyone NOT use a scale at home? Mine was shattered by a candle the other day and debating if I should replace it. I can get obsessive about weighing

Did you buy toddler spoons and forks?

The thought of puréed meats freak me out. Did anyone shred whitefish or crab where it’s in fine pieces and that worked?

I know I’ll have to wait for my surgeon to clear me but around about how long before you could do spin class? I’m just curious since you have to engage your core a lot and it’s my preferred cardio.

I will have a drain, surgeon gives everyone one for a week, tips and tricks for keeping it concealed and out of the way? I’m scared of my youngest pulling on it if he sees it.

Did anyone need/use liquid melatonin? I’m an insomniac as it is. Or have any advice on sleeping.

sorry for the long post 😬

Stop breath and relax

Do not go buying a bunch of stuff - You just need a cup and a nutra bullet - You will not need a scale baby fork or any of that - Trust me you are getting knocked for a loop soon and here is my suggestions

Buy nothing for the food or liquids -

Buy yourself a new pillow, and a good set of Bose Headset to just chill - All you have to do is sip Water - any cup will do this just fine, as for food that will not be a issue, read this site on post op first week -

sleep - walk - sip - sip walk sleep sip is all you need

Thank you both for all of the questions and for telling us to breathe. Save and invest in your Bose earbuds, rest, hydrate, walk and repeat.

I have a 2 year old grandson so I did buy some toddler plates and utensils on clearance from the grocery store for .50 for a pack of 6 each, which he'll inherit the use of with me. I just bought a package of nice salad plates from Ross as my new dinner plates for 4.99. I have to curb my straw usage, thanks AJ for the intervention. Lol!!!

I disagree with Tylo. I took the surgery and night in the hospital as a new birth, came home to all the things I need and my new lifestyle and way of eating.

No sippy cups, no straws. I have 3 or 4 different 32 oz Water bottles that I drink from. Makes my intake easy to track.

Not sure if PO is pre or post but clear just means see through. Jello, any color, popsicles are all fair game. You can have Protein water or isolates like Syntrax Nectar.

Buy a scale, preferably a nice one that does water and bone weight as well. A large part of this surgery is losing weight - you don't wanna know how that's going?

Did you buy toddler spoons and forks?

Yes, and it's been a big help for me personally.

Ask them about the puree stage. My surgeon didn't have one. I went from liquids to soft foods. I could have pureed stuff but I was also able to eat ground beef and turkey so why would I puree?

It'll be at least a month. Walk as much as you can during that time.

Can't help with this one, I didn't have a drain and don't have kids to pull on things lol

I weaned myself off my nightly melatonin before surgery and it was one of the best things I did.

Thank you. I’m also trying to get every thing I would need post op for the first week or two because I am sure it will be difficult to lug around a 5,4,3,2yr old and shopping.

You're welcome. I can't imagine how hard it would be with all those young kids lol. Worst I had was toy sized puppers not realizing it was bad to jump on dads tummy haha

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
