How long did your incisional pain last

Recommended Posts

I just had my sleeve surgery on 11/12/19, I am still feeling my incision pain, but I am also worried I am not drinking enough?!

You gotta get the fluids in - sip, sip, sip. No compromise here - you gotta get them in, even if you get nothing else in. At least 64 oz a day. MO people can literally go weeks or months without any calories, but you have to have the Water. That is you #1 goal.

Incisional pain is going to last a while. What you see on the outside is nothing compared to what is on the inside. It is going to take a couple of months to be fully healed. Until then, you will have twinges of pain when you move a certain way, try to get out of bed, or get off the couch. Use a small, very firm pillow (or stuffed animal) to brace against your tummy when you change position or stand up. I even had to use it for walking the first week. You can also use it to brace against your tummy when you are lying down to take tension off the incisions. The pain will gradually get better, but be prepared to be sore for a while. That is normal. In the meantime, your job is simple - drink fluids, and start walking.

about six weeks for the full heal of the incisions - Water sucks i agree - But you gotta plow thru it

I remember being sore for a long time, but I was only out of work for 2 weeks so it wasn't horrible pain. As others have said you HAVE to drink Water. It will help with healing also. I loved having a hot water bottle on me at night after a long day. Not only helped with the pain but also forced me to relax and take it easy.

My main incision hurt at times for 5 weeks. I would move just right and feel like someone just stabbed me. The rest were hardly noticed after a couple days.

I'm three weeks out and I only have one incision that still hurts and it's only superficial. The glue just doesn't seem to want to come off and that's irritating it.

Aside from that specific incision, I've been pain free for at least a week.

The worst pain was the first 3 days but still some minor pain for the first 2 weeks just be careful if bending or carrying anything over 5lbs

That’s good advice. I had my sleeve on 11/11 and experienced very little pain at the five incisions for the scopes and I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. The worst part for me was gas on the left side for the first 48 hrs. It eventually subsided after I started passing gas and going to the bathroom. The other incision points only ache mildly at this point, but overall it’s WAY Less than what I expected going into this. Best advice is stick with the liquids slowly throughout the day, avoid anything with sugar or even sugar alcohols, try to walk at least once or twice daily and above all, pat yourself on the back for having the strength and courage to get the sleeve done! You’ll do great.

If you get tired of just Water, Gatorade Zero is a great option. It’s been my Go-To way to keep hydrated. I’ve heard that the ph in drinking water can be tough on the stomach for some people.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
