Hi, all. I'm having pre-op tomorrow! Surgery is December 12. I, too, am getting nervous, asking myself alot of questions (like did I REALLY try to diet???; is this REALLY necessary????). My head says this is the smart thing to do; my heart says I'm committed; and my gut is nervous as hell!

I understand exactly what you mean. Sometimes I think "Why couldn't I have done this on my own?" etc. I stop and think about all the times I lost weight....just to regain it again. I think maybe the $ have a lot to do with it. I don't have to pay for the entire lapband but 30% of it. I feel guilty about having to spend this money when my family could use it. I'm hoping that the lapband will help me to stop overeating or restrict me when I'm feeling emotional, stressed, etc. Now I seem to be able to eat enough for a family of 5....

Hi Kelly!

Setting up a thread for 12/18 bandits sounds great! We can support each other and we'll all be at the same place in our journey! This is the first time I've ever even joined a thread.

Are you going to be on a liquid diet before your surgery? I'm suppose to be on Clear Liquids for 3 days before and then full liquids for 1-2 wks.

What foods give your husband problems? I've heard some people can eat anything and others have trouble with lots of things.

Hi,

I'm also getting banded on the 18th. I've been using whey powder from the Vitamen shoppe. I've used the chocolate and found that its good without being very sweet. I always mix it with skim milk so it's a total of 32grams of Protein.< /p>

Hi There~

I am being banded on the 12th! I am really nervous (espically because of Christmas)...but it was now or never.

I ordered Protein powder from Jarrow, because I heard that it was decent and it was fairly inexpensive.

Good luck to everyone! We can do this!!!

Frisky,

I have to be on liquids for two weeks prior, not fun.

The day after surgery I go to pureed foods for two weeks. My sister's doc was like yours.

The only thing my husband has trouble with is grilled (beef) steak. But he wants his meat cooked very well done, so therefore dry. Yuck. He can eat ground beef. He doesn't eat much white bread.

He tries to eat his Protein first and veggies, and keeps starchy and sugary foods to a minimum. But he can eat just about everything. If we go to Texas Roadhouse for example, he'll order the appetizer ribs, it comes with fries, but he substitutes a salad or baked sweet potato without the sweet butter. He usually doesn't finish the side. That's the same man that used to order an appetizer and eat most of it, a full meal, and a lot of peanuts and rolls. Only once in two years have I heard him say "I wish I didn't have the band today." That was at a family reunion this summer when he looked at all the tons of food and knew he couldn't sample everything. LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
