You are going to be highly successful in this journey. You are already making lifestyle modifications, eliminating addictive trigger foods, and working on the "mind games", reframing your food decisions into healthy choices and delay of gratification. Surgery is a tool - not a magic bullet. YOU are working the magic NOW! Great job! I really look forward to watching your progress and success!

Thanks AZ! That is very kind of you to say, especially this week when it's been tougher than normal to choose right. I caught a cold and had nausea with it. I broke down and ate soda crackers to soak up and eliminate whatever icky cold stuff was in my tummy, but now I'm retaining Water from the salt on the crackers. Paying for my mistake? YES definitely. What do you all do for nausea that is still keeping you on track?

If you get nauseated frequently, you should ask your dr for a prescription for Zofran. It dissolves under your tongue and works great!

It was only during the cold, with all the post-nasal drippings. UGH! I'm glad I'm on the other side of it now. Thanks for the advice @cspera. I have a prescription for Phenergan that I had totally forgotten about.

You know how it is though when you aren't feeling good. You go back to what helped when you were younger. At least that's what I did. My mum used to soak soda crackers in a little tea with sugar to settle my stomach when I was sick. I've at least graduated from that to straight up soda crackers or Peanut Butter toast.

@Machalo I use a young living oil called Digize. I put a couple drops under my tongue. Works great for nausea and acid reflex!! I as well have cut out a ton of toxic foods from my diet. I started several months ago with the elimination diet and started eating more whole foods. I have surgery scheduled for 12/12 so I feel like i'm on a pretty good path.

Thanks @jib8080. I will keep that in mind for next time I get sick. Which hopefully won't be again this flu season. *knock wood* ;)

Sorry to be Debbe-Downer here, but I used my preop time to get RID of the addictive foods - alcohol, caffeine, sugar, processed foods, refined carbs. I cleaned up my eating a lot. I did not want to struggle with any of that afterwards when recovery itself would be hard enough. I figured I did not have to wait until surgery day to decide to make the changes for life. Just saying.
Did you feel it helped make things easier. I have surgery in two weeks and I'm thinking about the Same thing.

Absolutely!!!! I did not have to deal with a caffeine headache, sugar cravings, or Diet Coke cravings. I had already started to reframe my thought processes toward healthy lifestyle changes. By cutting out sugar and caffeine, my energy levels had stabilized and were even throughout the day - no afternoon slump or need to charge up in the mornings. This allowed me to focus on healing, walking, and drinking Water. Younger gals can have emotional swings related to hormone release, and I cannot imagine dealing with THAT, as well as sugar and caffeine withdrawal!

My best piece of advice to anyone before surgery is to get rid of the addictions BEFORE hand.

Because of my first surgery in 1998 I still had restriction so I never had a pig out party for myself even though I kind of wanted one. I did go have a margarita the night before my pre op diet. I have also not been telling myself that I can never have a certain food, only it will be later. Except soda, I had given that up a few months prior to surgery.

"I can't have that now, but I will have it later" is a great strategy. It helps relieve the feeling of deprivation and is a great exercise in delayed gratification.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
