Recommended Posts

I’m 3 weeks post-op from my gastric sleeve. I’m curious if anyone has any good recommendations for a pre workout or if anyone has an tips about getting back into working out.

thanks!!

3 weeks you might want to start slow don't push yourself too much. I know I'm not meant to lift anything over like 10lbs until 4 weeks so I'm taking it very easily right now 2 days from 2 weeks post op :)

Wall pushups, walking, walking, walking. Light weights (like 2-3 pounds) for upper body routine. It's about reps, not how heavy the weights are. Might be too early for a leg routine, as abs come into play with squats and lunges. There are a lot of good arm and leg routines online. Start with a few and gradually add others.

Way to early you are not healed yet - I bought a Elliptical Machine and it shreds weight off me - But i was advised to wait 2 months before any workout - This came right from my doctor, I would just walk alot for the first two months.

My doc insisted on walking right away - 10,000 steps a day, which I was doing 1 week post op.

Actually its not all about reps. Low reps and high weight still breaks the muscles down and gives them the need to rebuilt just as much as low weight high reps. I did a program before surgery that was 1x a week, low reps high weight and I increased all of my maxes by quite a bit in a short time frame.

That said - anything is better than nothing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
