11 days post op no restriction with liquids at all just tried yoghurt today no issues either??

Recommended Posts

Pretty much since day 5 I've been drinking Water and shakes without any real issues at all.... I obviously drink less than pre surgery and smaller mouthfuls but still no problems meeting all my Protein and water goals..

11 days post tried some yoghurt high protein YOPRO again didn't feel any physical restrictions inside or while eating it..

My stomach does like to make noises and rumbles at odd times but not feeling much at the moment.

I am allowed to transition into soft stuff stage 2 on day 14 that's why I got the yoghurt very soft and tasty..

Is it possible my stomach is still healing and maybe the physical restriction will come later on??

I just spent months reading about people with the RNY having all kinds of restrictions not being able to drink much at all and struggling to eat even 1oz of food.... I haven't noticed anything like that....

I know I had surgery and got the holes to prove it just expected more restriction from early on..

11 days post op and I'm down 11lbs I just hope it keeps going and losing well :D

maybe I'm an anomaly?? Just some days I wonder did I have surgery lols

Your tissues will be healing for at LEAST 7 more weeks. I personally felt like I turned a big corner at 3 months. Like others have said, the restriction comes into play once you start on solids. And your surgeon gave you a bigger pouch, anyway, so you may never feel the same degree of restriction as others. Being a man, you are most likely going to lose quite quickly. Wishing you success on your journey.

Agree... I didn't feel restriction until i had purees which was a week after surgery. At first it was 2oz of puree and it would hurt when I got full. Then I moved to 3oz maybe a month later and now at 3 1/2months i can probably get in like 5oz+. The hurt when full went away at about 1 1/2months and now I can just tell when I'm full. I've lost 51lbs in 3 1/2months.

7-10 weeks it take your belly to heal, So be careful that is a big cut and will need to be taken care of, Do not push it and just chill and let your body recover, I can say even today i still have issues with some foods, There is a big difference between Yogurt and Cottage cheese and a 4oz piece of chicken, So i would lay low till atleast week 5 to make sure you are somewhat healed up.

F@#ck food - is my attitude

Just felt like a little texture so had some yoghurt only a few days from day 14 where I can move to stage 2 if I like, but I am on shakes right now :)

it's weird sometimes I feel hungry other times I'm not; so it's just getting used to this post op life and dealing with these feelings each day.

you might be right, it may take weeks before I notice any major restrictions...

Congratulations on the yogurt. I am 5 weeks post op and was able to eat a few bites of most food, until yogurt. My stomach is now very restricted. It’s so difficult to even drink the Water. Go slow, setbacks and terrible

Don't test the envelope. Follow your doc's progression and limits for you so you maximize your time and protect your healing tummy.

I didn't feel restriction until about month 3 or 4. Until then, my nerves were healing and weren't giving good signals to my brain. So I ate on a schedule and only ate what I was supposed to eat in a meal volume determined by my doc and RD.

I too had no trouble getting fluids in or taking in yogurt. I felt no restriction--until month 3-4. But by following the rules, I was at my Goal #1 by month 8 I think?

I can eat more than others to this day. Always could. That is why the myth of restriction is a myth. Pouch size is only important and significantly associated with lack of loss or regain when volume exceeds 9oz by volume. That is right at my volume level. I can hold 9-10oz of cottage cheese by volume.

It is more important HOW you fill your pouch and even more importantly, HOW OFTEN you fill it. Fill it with low cal, low fat, high Protein, low carb, intensely nutritious food and you should not have issues...

So I'm just ahead of you in the process - I'm 2 weeks 4 days today. And like you I had no issue getting Water and yogurt down - even 4 days after surgery I was getting 64 oz in just water, not to mention my Protein Shakes.

But then came week 2 when I started soft foods and I couldn't eat a whole scrambled egg. Then the next night I barely finished my 4 oz of chili (which was mostly 3 oz of chili liquid and 1 oz lean beef).

I wondered the exact same stuff you were but trust me, the restriction will come. Just stick to your plan. And don't worry about the weight stall when you start soft foods. I just hit it and got over it (I think and hope).

BTW we'll have to chat about Australia sometime soon. Wife and I are thinking of going there and NZ in May for our 10 year anniversary!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
