My first one was horrible, heavy and cramps. I thought I would need to get a transfusion after. Make sure you are eating foods with high Iron to compensate. I used a warm compress for cramps. The next few months were heavier but not as bad and now at 8 months it is almost back to my normal.

I had the same experience as 2Bsmaller18...it was bad. It's the hormones that are out of wack. You know the portion of our stomach that was removed played a major part in hormone production, so it just takes time to get right again. I'm 8 months post op and they are normal and I'm on birth control again. I just took pamprin and Tylenol. Hang in there lady 🤗

Thanks for the heads up! I started the day after surgery and it was regular. So I should be starting in a week, kinda nervous now!

Mine came about 1 week after surgery and it was the worst cramps I ever experienced. I literally had to take the Percocet my doc gave me for the surgical recovery pain. I couldn't eat/drink any thing for 2 days. Vomited any thing I tried to consume. The second one however was ok. Tylenol controlled the pain.

Just the fact that I even got my period was a surprise. I hadn’t had it in MONTHS prior to surgery, and only a handful of times 2-3 years before that. It lasted over a week (when it only used to last 4-ish days when I did get it).

Since then, it’s come like clockwork every single month (almost 2 years now post-op).

I guess I wasn’t pre-menopausal after all...just overweight 🙄

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
