Dr. V: Why you shouldn't exercise after WLS

Recommended Posts

At least from surgery to 6 months. He does make sense, but when I look back at my first surgery when I exercised daily (no Sundays) and lost 100 in six months. I just wanted to know what you all think of this.

Isn't this the guy who screwed someone out of a free lapband? And then moved from TX to IL to NM? And has been accused of doing surgeries on people who shouldn't have had them?

After reading your post I decided to search the web and see what I could find. There are no "news" stories about DR. V, all I could find was hearsay or websites people put up on their own to express their feelings. Nothing substantiated.

That's fair. I was only basing it on some of the things I read on the forums here.

I have watched a few of his videos and I think it is up to the viewer to decide what they believe. I for sure don't buy into everything he says. Thank-you for responding!

Last time I looked at his youtube channel and Facebook page he was spruiking about MLM products and he was trying to recruit sellers. Some of the major speakers at a conference he was organising at that time were major players in the MLM world. Haven't been back to look since.

My surgeons plan - Walking right after surgery to help the healing process. Then released to do more after a month. (They would like to see patients walking for an hour 4/5 days a week)

Here is my problem with waiting for six months (only my opinion) Exercise with bariatric diet complimented my weight loss. I got to goal in six months. Would I have lost at this rate if I waited? IDK

I can see not going overboard but I think the first 6 months is important for forming habits. I backed off on the amount of weight I lifted, rode the bike or treadmill at a slower pace etc.

I'm always on the fence about endorsing a sedentary lifestyle, it's rubbish to your health

So many people have said it so very well so I'll just leave encouraging words here

I think it depends on the person as well. I do see his points. I like his videos, but when I had my band I started walking after a month and kept it up and increased as time went on and was totally fine. Lost all my weight in 9 months. I was SO freaking happy. Plan on listening to my doc and my body this time around as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
