HI everyone, newbie here! I've been lurking for a bit but now I have a tentative surgery date so I thought I'd pop in. I had my EGD a couple of weeks ago and they found a moderate hiatal hernia. They said with that size it is safer to fix that first then do the sleeve. So my surgery to repair the hernia was yesterday. Very similar to the sleeve surgery I'm told. I have 5 incisions in my tummy and I'm pretty sore but getting around decently.

I had to be on Clear Liquids for 2 days prior to the hernia surgery so I know I can do that part of the sleeve surgery. Yes, it sucked but I'm glad I got a preview and it was totally doable. I'm still on liquids the next 4 days but I find I'm just really not that hungry.

I have a tentative sleeve date of 12/26 (I might push it to 12/28 or 12/30). Sleeve surgeon won't touch me until 6 weeks after the hernia surgery and I was really pushing for this to be done before the end of the year and my HD insurance plan rolls over.

I am so excited for the sleeve I can't stand it. It's been hard waiting. Like all of you I have tried every diet under the sun and once I lose a certain number of lbs, my body just starts battling against me and I always lose. This is my last shot.

Nice to meet you all!

Updating my status. Had my post-op hernia/pre-op sleeve appt yesterday! All boxes have been checked so now I'm just waiting on insurance approval and my official date for my sleeve is 12/28. I'm first on the schedule for the day. Since I'm on the lower end of the BMI for insurance approval my dr actually doesn't want me to do the full 2 week pre-op diet. He also said he was just in there doing the hernia and saw my liver and so he isn't concerned with that. He just wants me to do the 2 day clear liquid diet before surgery. I'm SO relieved! I would have totally done whatever I needed to do obviously but knowing I can eat my last meal before Surgery on Christmas day will be kind of cool!

Mine is scheduled for Dec 2nd. I'm so excited! This forum is great, plus I've watched so many YouTube videos - they are super helpful (even the "wish I hadn't done it" few.) Am on the pre-surgery high Protein liquid diet which my surgeon has his patients continue for at least another four weeks post. Don't mind it at all, luckily. Like the green smoothie from Dr. Vuong - but I only add two small frozen pineapple chunks to avoid the blended fruit = sugar problem. I'm looking forward to seeing how we do here on this thread. Good luck, everyone!

Congratulations, you are on post op day #1 today. Hang in there, today and tomorrow will be the worst, but then you will start to get the hang of it by day 3 and the pain will reduce significantly days 3 and 4.

I'm on post op day #6 and feel great!

Hi y'all. Newbie here, but I have been lurking, and reading, and learning. My sleeve date is December 2nd. I start my one week liquid diet next Tuesday, so I get to drink broth and Jello for Thanksgiving! haha!

I am super excited and very terrified at the same time. When I got my date set I had a mini panic attack. I was freaking out if I was doing the right thing or not.

I am 52 years old, I am ready for this journey, and am ready to be healthy and lose 100 pounds.

Good luck! You should be on post op day #1 today!

I'm on post op day #6, it gets better quicker than you realize

I'm on day one post-op and feel pretty good. Very little gas pain and liquids and now full liquids are going down well.

30 hours since my sleeve and the only thing that hurts are the cuts, when I cough. Hope this is as bad as it gets.

I had a sleeve done on Monday 12/2. I’m home and sore, trying to not overdo things. Did anyone else have to come home with oxygen? I have to wear it while at rest, whether at home or in the car. I was told that 80% of people in my area (Denver) go home on oxygen due to the altitude. Anyway, I hope everyone has a great surgery with a quick recovery.

I'm just a few hours out than you are and I'm having the same experience. Except for the one incision where they did most of the dirty work I have no pain at all.👍😀. I feel very lucky.

Had surgery 12/2. Feeling great. No pain meds since 12/3 other than tylenol. I had revision from band to sleeve. Just had a major coughing fit. That kinda hurt!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
