Ok people just left hospital after 7 days!!

LAPROSCOPIC ROUX EN Y BYPASS

So I'll see how good my memory is..

I got to hospital Monday 10-28 at 10am waited a few hours to see surgeon had low blood sugar so had to wait longer finally got in around 3pm.

Woke up around 6pm so bloody sore like you have no idea.. My stomach was so big and tight and holes in my belly plus the drain..

Was on IV from day one with fluids and then had fentanyl pumped into me every few hours to keep the pain down..

First 24hrs slept off and on so much every time I woke I was sore got more drugs to help me sleep so was pretty out of it for the first 48hrs..

I'm not sure if it was normal or I'm a sook lol..

After 3 days finally got the drain line out and had shower and felt much better but still pretty sore getting in and out of bed..

Blood tests and blood pressure and sugar check every few hours the first few days.. Wouldn't let me sleep much lol

Started walking the halls after I think day 4 and on fluids everyday just broth and Water and Optifast nothing else..

The hospital staff were so nice and accommodating though every time i needed I pressed the button they were there..

Was still a little sore and bloated for the first 4 days but started going number 2 by then and farting more to let out the gas and air..

But everything is just liquids still so haven't felt anything going In or out except a few pills I take or if I drink too quickly... Gotta learn to slow down

Been on chewable Multivitamin since few days and been drinking plenty of water so that's been good and having my shakes but only half size shakes now..

Um I'm trying to think of anything else to help others going for surgery..

MY SURGEON chooses to make pouch a little bigger than regular which he says much easier to adjust and get used to not so restricted but still enough to make an impact :)

Been feeling good last couple of days but still a little tired here and there just gotta keep water up and Protein up don't feel worried if drinking too much Your body needs it to recover and heal :)

I'm finally on my way home miss my own bed and feeling hopeful for the future definitely!!!!!

thank you everyone!!!!

Glad to hear you are OK and recovering. Sorry it was such a long ordeal, but now you have the first week behind you and you will start feeling better. Keep up the walking! If you get any soreness in your legs, let your doc know ASAP. You were down for quite a while.

That was a long stay. I was in for 5 nights but that was because I had a complication. Glad you are ok. Were you able to get someone to pick you up and drive you home?

I was born with kidney issues so they wanted to be sure my meds would work so made me stay the weekend... I was ready to go Friday lol

Its weird like I feel when I take medication and the pills go down but I can drink a lot of fluids maybe a 600ml bottle every couple hours... I've always drank a lot due to my kidneys and this is only half as much as normal unlike some ppl talking about struggling to drink 1 bottle a day???

I still take smaller drinks per mouthful but not like I expected only to take 100ml(4oz) an hour...?

I'm always thirsty and I'm still on liquids so have my shakes plus I carry bottle of Water with me to drink..

It might be due to my surgeon doing slightly larger stomach before the bypass?

**Sorry TMI but my first poos were greeeny black lol**

Try to not compare what you can do/ what others can do, everyone is different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
