Feeling of awful anxiety since surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm a week out from revision, sleeve to bypass due to reflux. I'm an emotional mess....every moment I want to cry for no reason. I don't know if some of my meds are not being absorbed correctly. But I can't take this..I'm normally pretty upbeat, but someone can look at me and I start to cry. Feel like I can't catch my breath, depressed, I'm going to call my family dr on Monday to see if my meds are they should be...but man I'm a mess...any suggestions?

This is quite common after major surgery and a general anaesthetic. You and your body have gone through a lot.

As the GA works it’s way out of your system things should improve. The other thing that helps is when you start seeing the weight drop off!

Dont worry about it too much, it is really normal. Just be gentle with yourself and don’t try to do too much

I'd say your rate of absorption by your meds is being affected by your bypass. Hopefully your doctor can help you through this...reach out to your friends and family don't try to hide your feelings. And this may sound a bit dramatic but if you feel overwhelmed you can probably find some sort of hotline to get help from...good luck--You CAN get through this and we're pulling for you!

I think that you should check in with your Dr. or Bariatric program, but a lot of changes are going on with you, a lot of people get emotional, your hormones are in an uproar.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
