Beachdaze 1 Posted November 2, 2019 Is an EGD pretty standard as part of work up? Just curious.
Lynda486 784 Posted November 2, 2019 I think it is, they need to get a good look at what they will be dealing with. It really isn't a big deal. They give yu meds and you won't really remember much at all.

Is there anything else to deal with - like a hiatal hernia that will be repaired at the same time? Has chronic GERD done damage to the esophagus - like Barrett's? Are there any ulcers that need to be healed up prior to surgery? Are there any polyps that need to be removed and sent for biopsy? Chronic gastritis that needs medication? There are lots of things the surgeon needs to know before rearranging your anatomy, and the EGD is the best way to take a peek on the inside and see what there is. The surgeon does not want to find surprises or have complications.
catwoman7 11,221 Posted November 2, 2019 back when I had RNY, is was required of the potential sleeve patients but not the bypass patients. I don't know what they're requiring now as that was 4.5 years ago
