Water information needed

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved October 1st, 2019 and I have a specific question about Water intake. I have now lost 19 since surgery, but I am struggling with consuming 64 oz of water, in fact I had to get an IV due to dehydration. I know that I am not getting quite enough water, but is 64 oz really necessary? How does it help? If I can get some accurate and specific information, I would be better able to comply. My workplace is rather jerk-intensive, and I have been told that if I keep taking short breaks I will need to get a letter from my doctor, to submit to HR, to avoid "problems". Please advise, thanks.

64 oz is the number that you work your way up to eventually and all fluids you consume count towards your hydration goals (tea, broth, popsicles, even jello)

Proper hydration especially Water is important for a lot of bodily functions. Use google scholar to pull some journals to support this with evidence and get a doctors note if you need to stating your need to use the restroom more frequently is temporary.

I was told no less than 48 oz. They pounded that into my head. Even today that is all I get. I love Water, but it is hard for me. Good luck!

I had bypass, but I had the same problem with Water in the first couple of months, particularly with not drinking for 30 minutes before or after eating. All I can say is that it got easier over time and I can now consume about 90 oz per day!

My HR recommendation is to get the letter so you can't get fired for it. Are you not allowed to carry a bottle of Water around? I'm a year out from the sleeve and can still get pretty dehydrated after 64 oz. a day. I drink a lot of lightly fruit-flavored Hint water, and Wegmans house brand flavored water. It's expensive and bad for the environment, but I can get them down a lot easier than plain water. 4 bottles of Hint Water = 64 oz. Good luck!

I hate Water and it is my most difficult challenge, Do not go ape **** crazy measuring oz's Sip it and do what you can I am a big guy and a Nutritionist told me to shoot for 48 - Also remember eat moist foods, easy to swallow and digest and they have water. For example I brine chicken first so it is loaded with water. One thing that saves me is pop sickles - The ones in the plastic tubes off Amazon. I make them and flavor them and at electrolytes.

I feel for you - Water is a pain in the ass for some people

Alot of people on here are judemental on what to do or not to do. Id recommend going to costco or online and looking up hydration packs. Costco has one that is a small packed u put in Water and for every 1 bottle it makes it like ur drinking 2. It has electro lights in it and i find and have found it works wonder on not being dehydrated. At 4 months post op i drank water with a packed 2 times a week my pee before was so dark i was worried id have to go into the docter and get iv Fluid because i wasnt drinking enough this product saved the day for me and my pee was light and normal the next day. The military uses these packets to help dehydrated people get the fluid they need.. i still drink one or 2 a week to make sure im staying well hyfdrated!!!

Thank you for the suggestion! I purchased a hydration solution and although it tastes a little peculiar (passion fruit-but it really tastes like a drink mixer) and it looks like this is the solution.😊

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
