spine degeneration and herniation

Recommended Posts

so, totally different medical issue question here.. lol..

1) has anyone here had a disc herniation and how long did it take to heal? i am going insane! it's been 4.5 weeks and totally stagnant with regards to improvement for the last 2.5 weeks.

2) does anyone here have disc degeneration and what do you take for pain since we can't have NSAIDs?? any OTC ANYTHING that provides relief? i can't keep chugging bottles of Tylenol (for the sake of my liver). icyhot and biofreeze help mildly.

I have an appointment with my rheumatologist for issue #2, but he can't see me until December 6th. ;(

TY. I've been in physical therapy for 3 weeks (3x a week) or so and it isn't doing anything. I also see an orthopedic massage therapist 2x a week. I am exasperated.

I had a herniation in my C6, my neck and they wanted to do surgery. I chose to wait and it took a few months or so to get better. Hang in there, I think with time it will get better!💗

Is it possible to see a pain management dr? They are the best to work with for pain relief.

the best otc pain relief that I have found hands down is turmeric. It needs to have the curcuminoids plus it is necessary to take it with bioperine in order to absorb it.

Hang in there and good luck!

I have degeneration in my neck and just had 4 injections into my facet joints on Tuesday. It's still early, but I'm feeling much better! Maybe your surgeon can do that for you. Good luck! I also have bulging disks at C5-6 and C6-7.

I've had herniated discs three times. The worst one took about three months to heal. Doctors recommended surgery and injections, but I did not want them. It was torture, particularly in bed, but it did heal eventually. Hang in there!

I have a terrible back since a fall down a flight of concrete stairs. I have had 3 surgeries on my back. Now my Thoracic spine is having issues. I would recommend the injections and go from there. My thoracic pain does not respond to the injections and now I am on a buprenorphine pain patch. Just recently my primary told me she can not dispense this as it is equivalent to 90 morphine. Now I am waiting for my pain management appointment in early November. Good luck with this, it is awful to be in pain!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
