All liquid and purreed Soups - Going to be a long week but it is worth it - Once you get the surgery you will be on the same diet for a short time. My suggestion is to get a Nutra blender or some sort of machine that will turn Soup into liquid -

Stock up you do not want to have to go to the store - You can do pudding and some jellow and cottage cheese. But 50 hours before surgery go straight broth or liquids. BTW this change in diet and your nerves will begin to mess with your head, stay focused, Best decision i have every made-

Here is the tip that will make your life great

GET OUT OF BED AS SOON AS YOU CAN AFTER THE SURGERY, MOVE, SIP Water, MOVE, TAKE THE DRUGS, MOVE, WALK, SIP, WALK. THE FASTER YOU GET THE AIR OUT THE BETTER.

reach out here anytime most of us have learned what not to do.

clear broth, Protein Shakes and SF Jello popcicles. my surgeon had me go with Protein shakes that were only 15-20g each that way i could have up to 5-6 a day.. he just wanted the protein to be no more than 120g a day.

We had no specific diet from the surgeon (thankfully), but insurance often requires some sort of medically supervised diet/exercise program for 3-6 months. For that, I started working on the habits that would sustain the weight loss years later (like today!) - cut out the crap, minimize the packaged/processed foods, particularly those with added sugar (which is most of them) more fresh fruits and veg, whole grains instead of processed white flour products, leaner meats. Basically all the things that a good RD will tell you to do. I worked on cutting the calories back to a level that I could sustain, but not the extreme levels promoted by some fad diets that only promote cheating. Lost about 50 lb over that six months which helped to reinforce the fundamentally good habits that I had developed (which still work today, years later.)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
