I was a soda junky pre surgery. I was surprised that I didn’t crave it after surgery. I waited until my first year (less surgery restriction) to try it. I felt bloated after.

Around three years out. I can't really handle it anymore unless i let it go fairly flat first. The carbonation irritates my stomach. Some people have no problem with it, though.

When I got my lap band I went 3 years without touching a soda. But then I discovered if I poured it waaaay up high over my glass most of the fizz came out of it and I started drinking it again. I'm having issues with my band, but a barium swallow shows no slippage or stretching of my pouch. I've always contended that you'll burp out all the excess gas before you'll stretch your pouch, and it appears that it was true in my case, but as Briswife15 sez-YMMV. See what your surgeon recommends.

Now hopefully soon I will be getting a revision from a lap band to a RNY and if the surgeon says "no fizz" I will drop it in a New York Minute!

My doc and nutritionist say absolutely no carbonation. And seeing as how my biggest vice was Cola (the only carbonation I really drank)... it is a slippery slope for me anyway.

I follow my plan ALMOST to a T. ... Carbonation is one of the rules I’ve broken because I drink flavored sparkling Water or la croix on occasion.

I was always told it’s a flat no to fizzy, so have been too scared to even contemplate! I have read others do but stir it and take fizz out. Luckily (or not) I always preferred juice which is sugary and also not ideal!

Beer is brutal 6 months out. I had one at a ball game with a client but it did not sit well. Champagne has a funny tingle but manageable. Soda is my kryptonite so I stay away.

I LIVED for seltzer but truth is you are never supposed to have it again. It can hurt but also have a bad effect on your pouch... But girlllllll I long for it every damn day. But I won touch it bec i was told in no uncertain terms is banned for life. Thank GOD i can still have coffee, or I might fall apart.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
