Almost a week since the surgery and adjusting

Recommended Posts

So my surgery was on the 18th and I'm currently in my full liquids phase (puree is on the 1st!) It no longer hurts as food goes down but I'm still trying to adjust to timing with eating and I feel starving at times. Hoping I get adjusted to that eventually.

I had RNY on Oct 1st and this is no joke. Ended up back in the hospital once. It's such a trial an error to figure out how much to drink how fast...etc..... 2 oz of meat in my baby measuring cup looks like nothing I want to use a kitchen scale but my plan says DO NOT use the scale only a measuring cup....I feel like I'm eating nothing. I'm so tired, I can't do much more than walk for exercise.... One of my belly button incisions looks weird....random pains sometimes...

Good for you! I actually preferred the liquid stage. shakes for Breakfast, broth for lunch then maybe a yogurt (thinned out with soy milk) for dinner. Just easier! @Mikeyy

Hang in there! I am 7 weeks out and my stomach still feels like it is asking to eat, but I have learned to ignore it because I know it is constantly active/churning still. I eat when I think I should eat and ignore it the rest of the time! It isn't to bad, just a constant something going on down there lol

Thanks for the encouragement @VIKING 0424 that’s so good to hear. I’m 1 month out and agree with everyone’s complaints above. Plus still so tired all the time. Glad there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

My energy increased at 6 weeks, so you are almost there! Don't get me wrong... I still get wiped out if I overdo it, but I have more energy than I have had for years.

Lol @mdhender87 don’t read the post-op boards before your surgery 😂 At least, I’m glad I didn’t or I would’ve questioned the choice. Despite the struggles, I definitely don’t regret it. As hard as it is, it’s better than the path we were doing down. Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
