Blood pressure 71/49

Recommended Posts

I woke up yesterday with so much dizziness that I had trouble walking. Last night I checked my BP as I normally do and it was 71/49. I did not take my blood pressure meds this morning. Anyone else have this happen?

Well, mine runs around 95/60, so not as low as yours. I used to have HBP prior to surgery. I'd call your primary care provider. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Hi. I hope you called your doctor as that is very low. I was running bp like that the first day post op in the hospital on pain meds but not anything like that since home.

Keep us posted!

That is really low , you need to see a Dr urgently. Mine dropped to 75 over 45 a couple of hours after my surgery and it was awful, I thought I was going to die! I got taken back into surgery and was given 4 units of blood. It turned out I had a bleed from a relatively minor blood vessel.

All the best, keep us updated

I wouldn’t have gone to sleep with mine that low, I would have called a Dr immediately. aI would have been scared that if I went to sleep I wouldn’t wake up

I was diagnosed with heart failure the day before I had surgery (my doctors in Mexico pretty much saved my life, as I had no idea something was wrong with my heart.) I’m 17 days post op today. Yesterday and the day before, I started almost blacking out every time I stood up, and then I’d get a headache. When I took my bp yesterday it was 71/48. I emailed my cardiologist and then consulted a pharmacist who told me that with the nearly blacking out symptoms, that was simply too low, and I needed to stop all my meds until I spoke with my doc. My bp slowly rose thru last night and today, and when I spoke to my doc, he took me off a med completely and reduced the dosage of the other 2. He said that at this point in recovering from surgery, I simply wasn’t able to intake enough Water to combat the water i was losing because of the meds. Please call your doctor and tell him what’s happening. You very likely need your meds adjusted until your water intake is closer to normal.

I've fainted from my BO dropping too low and had to get emergency medical treatment, I had to get IV treatments for dehydration and potassium. Low BP is just as dangerous as high BP, take care. Call the paramedics the next time, you are too valuable to risk.

First of all I want to thank you all for your replies and concerns. We were without power after a major storm Monday morning so I didn't see your replies until this morning. After skipping my BP meds yesterday, today my BP is 109/71. I have already sent a note to my regular DR, who I see Thursday. I am still a little dizzy but so much better. Since I couldn't cook yesterday I spent the day getting in more liquids. I plan to concentrate on liquids again today!

Again, thanks for your support and caring ways!

Lynda

Oh I'm glad that you are alright. As you can see, we all were worried about you. And a HIGH FIVE for thinking about your BP meds as being a possible culprit. Not sure that would have been my first option, but my primary care doc is only a phone call away, so he'd have been the first one I called. Glad you are feeling better. :)

That's awesome @Lynda486. I'm glad your doctor took you off your BP meds too. That is great that you can now come off of them entirely. Way to go!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
