Health Reasons Your Surgery Was Canceled?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is in 1 month: 1 am a self-pay LOOP DS (Sadi-S) candidate in Mexico.

I'm paranoid that I'll get there and my surgery will be canceled the day before due to some rare/hidden health issue.

For reference, I had a slipped lap band about 5 years ago and a gastric sleeve 4 years ago. So, this is my THIRD surgery.

I currently don't have any concerning symptoms, except for a very large sleeve.

I don't have any current barium swallow x-rays, so I will be getting them the day before surgery. It is on that day (the day before) that I will find out if the surgery will proceed. This is what I'm so nervous about.

I'm curious about reasons anyone else was deemed unfit to undergo surgery!

I developed bronchitis and anesthesia cancelled me. Rescheduled for 2 weeks...which is Monday! Good luck to you!

Here's a story! I was ON THE TABLE, put to sleep... SURGERY DAY (this was just in September) and they woke me up 20 minutes later and said "sorry, we can't operate. You have a huge mass in your stomach and we don't know what it is." YEAH. So I'm more-than-half drugged... confused... asking everyone who will look at me "DO I HAVE CANCER??" and getting answers like "we don't know what it is, yet. The doctor will talk with you when you are awake." I clearly remember replying OH I AM AWAKE NOW.

They referred me to OBGYN and I found out a few days later I have a huge cyst on top of my uterus.

I am heading back into surgery this coming Thursday for a hysterectomy and, if there are no surprises or complications, I will also receive my gastric bypass surgery at the same time (the two surgeons coordinated and are working together).

So there's a story for you! : )

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
