What do you MOST look forward to post WLS?

Recommended Posts

What are you most looking forward as you progress on your journey?

I'll start off

1. Not having to use the handicap stall in the bathroom

2. Being able to fasten a normal seatbelt on an airplane

3. Being able to put on my own sneakers

4. Doing my own pedicure

5. Being able to look at cute clothes again

6. Having a real hug (you know, when the other person can get their arms ALL the way around)

7. Exercise that doesn't hurt

8. Hopefully getting rid of most of my medications

9. Not being described by others as "fat" or "big"

10. Being able to keep up with my grandchildren

Okay, that's a start. You get the idea. I didn't even mention the joy of being able to shop for clothes and not feel like I have to hide the size label when I take it to the cash register. :) I look forward to hearing what you all think.

Love this!!

Here is my list:

1. Crossing my legs when I sit

2. Wearing high heels

3. Posting pics of myself on Facebook (right now it's just pics of my kids!)

4. Going to high school reunions, weddings, funerals...basically all the places I currently avoid for fear of running into someone who doesn't know how fat I got since high school.

5. Buying an outfit b/c I actually like it, but b/c it's the only thing that fits.

6. Going to my husband's work parties, etc, and not being embarrassed for everyone to see his fat wife (he is very good looking and I know people expect him to have a thin, beautiful, wife)

7. Wearing stretch pants to go to the gym, not b/c they are the only thing that fits.

8. Being a healthy role model for my children.

9. Keeping up with my husband, doing physical activities, hiking, bike riding, etc.

10. Going to a party or restaurant to enjoy the company, and not focusing on the food.

For me it would be to get rid of the back, knee, plantat fasciitis pain! To be able to walk and maybe run without pain stifling the effort of trying!

For me it's all about being healthy, having energy, and being able to participate in activities (like walking moderate distances!) that were not possible before. Looking great is a pleasant side effect! 🙂

I think we can all appreciate each other's desires here. Especially about not being in pain when you walk, run, etc. I'm looking forward to being able to do up the dishes in one go rather than having to quit half way through and come back to it later.

Dang! I'm looking forward to being able to bend over without so much hassle to be able to clean out my cats' boxes, because right now it is a chore.

I think cleaning out a litter box is a chore regardless of your weight! 🙂

LOL! You're right about that, Recidivist. It's even more of a chore when you can't easily reach them.

Oh! I thought of another thing I will look forward to! I'm looking forward to being able to sit in a chair like a real person and not have to lean my upper body back to a reclining position just to have back support.

Not have three sizes in my closet (small, medium, and large). I'm also hoping that this arthritis in my knees will subside just a little bit even though they started to hurt really bad which is why I started gaining weight in the first place because of the medicines I was taking.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
