3 weeks post op down only 10 lbs

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

Tomorrow will be three weeks post op and I’m sad to say, I’ve only lost 10 lbs.

I don’t understand it. I hardly eat anything. I’m averaging 500-600 calories a day and getting all of my Protein in. What am I doing wrong? I feel I should be loosing more.

Ive been stuck at 220 for almost a week and I’m at my wits end. I’m not even eating solid foods. I’m worried that I won’t get to my goal weight by the time my stomach starts to stretch out.

Any advice?

Hi @Dee2938 I know that's frustrating, especially because folks here seem to lose 10 lbs a week.... I would say you may be eating too many calories or perhaps carbs. i have always been calorie sensitive. Even at 300 plus pounds I ate 800 calories and less than 20 carbs to maintain that weight. I'm a week post op now but I typically don't go over 350 calories a day and stay under 20 carbs. Maybe try that and see if it works for you? Even with that diet I've only lost 6 lbs....

October 1 I weighed 284, October 9 I weigh 278. Not a big loss..... I'm a slow loser too......

keep doing what you are doing follow the program and it will continue you will have stalls along the way stick to exercise and food intake

it's a stall. Your 500-600 calories a day is fine - and do NOT worry about calories at this point. Only focus on Protein and Fluid intake.

you are what we call a "lightweight" and you're not going to lose nearly as fast as someone who starts at over 300 lbs. Combine that with the stall and....you're probably right where you need to be. Just stick to your plan. The weight will start to drop again once the stall breaks, and you WILL lose your excess weight as long as you stick to your surgeon's plan.

P.S. just wanted to add that I lost 16 lbs the first month, and I started off at way over 300 lbs. People lose at all different rates depending on a bunch of different factors. Your relatively low BMI (low compared to most bariatric patients) is one of those factors.

and I stalled weeks 2 &3 - no loss at all. It was just the infamous "three-week stall". My weight loss started up again during week 4.

Thanks everyone for your support. I’m continuing my plan and will try to be patient as the stall passes.

I am also an extremely slow loser. I noticed that our starting weights are also very similar, slow it's probably because we had a lower starting weight. But look at this way, how often have you been able to drop 10 pounds in a month? Keep working and the weight will come off at its own pace.

Don’t worry, it will come off. I haven’t lost 10 lbs a week. Everyone is different but because we aren’t eating what we did for years before the surgery, it has to come off. Go back and look at pictures in the past. Now, you are healthier and getting stronger every day. It will be alright.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
