Anyone have gastric sleeve surgery with BMI of 32 or less?

Recommended Posts

I have an initial consultation November 13th with a bariatric surgeon. I'm curious if anyone has had gastric sleeve at my BMI. I've had two TIAs & high cholesterol and triglycerides. Very concerned i still have a cardiac event.Thank you!!

I'm sure a lot of people did but I doubt many insurance companies will pay for it. I hope yours does though!

I'm sorry to hear that! Hopefully you won't have any complications! I think for history of heart problems and stuff like that they might consider regional anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. I'm just guessing though. I probably have no idea what I'm saying😬

My BMI was around 33-34 before gastric bypass, but I had high blood pressure, sleep apnea and pre-diabetes. These are called "co-morbidities," and insurance will usually cover the procedure if your BMI is between 30 and 35 with at least two co--morbidities. (My insurance--Aetna--did cover it.)

If your BMI is about 35 or higher, acceptance by your insurance company is usually automatic.

And in case you are wondering, I'm thrilled that I had the surgery seven months ago, even though I had "only" about 100 pounds to lose.

My bmi was 32 but the main problem i had was how i carried the weight, Even though i was pushing 350 i was still very very active, on my feet all the time and carried it well.

but I did have the Cardiac event and went down hard - Ended up with a Stint with a huge blockage of the widow maker! This was the main reason i chose the surgery to shag 100 pounds and get healthy. So far so good - but sure have a problem letting go of the vodka. Not even 90 days in yet but so far going well

I paid cash for my surgery so cant help with the insurance issues,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
