Day 1 of my preop diet......

You can do it. I chose to start my own diet early. 2-3x shakes a day. tuna. Veggies, fruit low carbs. No sugar. No fat. High protein!

Max 1000kcal a day for 5.5 weeks total so far and now down 46lbs.

Surgery in 3 weeks cannot wait for the RNY to change my life for the better!

90lbs to go :D

Congratulations on that weight loss, 46lbs wow! I think your approach is very smart. Your actions now will improve your surgical outcome, and you'll be well prepared for the post-op phases. Hope you post updates here after your surgery. Wishing you all the very best!

Linda, you are going to do this. Actually, scratch that. You ARE doing it! Even though I'm not on liquids before surgery, I have done this diet 3 times before, including for 90 days once (lost 80 lbs). The first 3 days are the hardest and you're two down already. As your body transitions into ketosis, any fatigue, hunger, lack of concentration, etc. will dissipate.

No. 1 is to drink Water like it is going out of style, staying super hydrated. No 2 is to go to crazy lengths to distract yourself from thinking about food - walk as often and as far as you can, see a movie, binge a few seasons of your fave show, read, get out of the house as much as possible, etc. No 3 is to stock your place with any allowable liquids such as sugar-free fluids, Jello, popsicles, and clear low-sodium broth. Make your shakes more interesting by adding a squirt of Mio or a natural extract.

Get lots of sleep. And keep the end goal in mind: you are taking compassionate, good care of your body and mind so that you have an optimal surgical outcome and a solid platform from which to spring into the post-surgical diet. In the overall scheme of life, 10 days is a blink of the eye! Hard at the beginning, but you'll persist and the rewards will be worth it. YOU are worth this.

Thanks polly sounds so much easier when you say it......😁

Keep it up! Pre-OP diet was the hardest for me. I had to keep some kind of liquid handy at all times. And chew gum.....

Yeah so far it's been quite hard for me as well. I've been drinking like there is no tomorrow to fill myself up and trying not to think about hunger. Thank you for the encouragement.

Agree ... Trident sugarless gum has been my friend.

Really? Does the gum really work? I have to get some. Lol. I thought it might make me more hungry 😩

For me, during the first week of the pre-op liquid diet, gum satisfied my urge to chew something, and kept me distracted enough not to think about the diet. I'm on day 13 now (surgery on Tuesday), and am no longer hungry at all, so I don't need the gum anymore.

Well, it looks easier in print (and in hindsight) than when you're trying to live it. You're right, the struggle is real, but the result is worth it. Hang in there! In just over a week neither one of us will be hungry, and newly preoccupied with how to ever get all of those fluids and Protein in 😬

You are absolutely 100% correct. That will be the next struggle trying to get 64 oz of Fluid down a day. Lol.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
