Doctors in Philadelphia

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone...Happy Thanksgiving!

I know there is probably a thread about this somewhere but I can't find it so I thought I would just ask.

Can anyone recommend a doctor in the Philadelphia area that does Lap Band surgery? My doctor recommended a Dr. Meiluhn at Temple University? Has anyone has any experiences with him? Do you have any other doctors to recommend? My PCP (unbelievably) did not have anyone to recommend and suggested coming on this site and asking for suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I had Dr Kirkland from Penn Hospital do mine. I love him. I was banded on 10/5/07. I have lost 30 pounds & I do not feel hungry at all. I had my 1st fill on 11/5 & my next fill is 12/6. He is awesome, there is nothing about him or his staff I do not like... I love it all!!! You can google him to see how great a doctor he is. Good luck!

My doctor was Dr. Williams at the University of Pennsylvania. It was a wonderful experience. I was banded on October 4th and have lost 30 pounds. My first fill is this coming Wednesday.

Dr. Williams is very thorough and kind and his staff is aces.

Good luck.

Lisa

Hi, My doctor is Gary Korus at Penn Prebyterian. He is great. I have been completely happy with him and the program there. Good luck finding a doc. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
