December Surgery dates???

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, so I was sleeved on Tuesday afternoon and was sleeping all day after it. Even the walks in the hospital got me exhausted. Gas pain was no joke but waking, gas pain medications given to me and a breathing exercise machine helped a lot. I got discharged yesterday with 5 incisions in my stomach. Other than the gas pain I was mostly fine. I had to do a liquid challenge the day after surgery to be discharged home. NYU was amazing. My highest weight was 258. Before liquid diet I was 253 and the day of surgery I was 240. My liver was great and no complications. I’m 5’3 and 33 y/o. Hope all of you have a speedy recovery. I’m trying to get rid of all the gas but Constipation does not help. Feel free to ask if you have a question. Good luck.

Hi, I was lucky not to have nauseas or vomiting at all. I was given medication for the nauseas pre surgery and to come home with. I keep my liquid down but I don’t drink more than a small zip at a time. Gas pain was difficult but is slowly gotten better since Tuesday. I haven’t have much appetite but I had broth and Water lately. It takes for ever to finish it and still couldn’t. I mean like an hour 😟. I got some sugar free Jello since I have to be liquid for 3 days. After that they want me to start Protein slowly if I feel up to it. I’m not hungry at all so definitely taking my chewable Multi Vitamins. Best of luck.

Hi everyone had my procedure this morning. These gas pains are serious and causing some serious nausea along with them. Tried walking a few times today and couldn’t make it too far until I started to get nauseous. Every time I take my small sips and even small bites of Jello my the gas pains seem to return w/ a vengeance. In bed going to attempt to sleep for a bit now. Hope everyone is doing well

Since you're sleepy anyway take some phenergan..it works on nausea.

You'll get through this.

I never got nauseous. Did they give you anything. I got in the hospital and prescribed with ondansetron 8mg. Dissolved under your tongue. Also got hyoscyamine for tremors that dissolve under the tongue. Another one I haven’t use is omeprazole that helps with reflux which I haven’t had at all. I had surgery on Tuesday and gas is finally coming out today. I stick more with liquids for the first 3 days and today I’m starting Protein.

Hope all is going well for y'all.

Still dealing with pain here. Not sure if it's gas pain, from having my Lap-Band removed, gallbladder removed or the actual bypass itself. Doesn't seem to be much incision pain...I think I may just have a low tolerance for pain lol.

Unfortunately I've been struggling to sleep much ever since the procedure on Monday. Usually I get about 2 hrs of sleep, with a few short naps throughout the day as I can manage... This is despite being on tramadol, ambien at night and Phenergan as needed. Definitely feeling very worn down, being awake all the time has made reaching my fluid goals easier though!

Interested to see how my follow up on Monday goes, should be able to graduate to pureed stage. Honestly I'm more excited about not having to crush my pills anymore.

Sorry, you are having a rough go, but you actually had 3 procedures each having it’s annoying way with you. Just try and keep in mind, it will take time. Lucky you, I can move to full liquid after my telephone call this afternoon, probably. But I am reaching my fluid goals, so all should be good.

I am 4 days post op and I was experiencing exactly what you said and only could keep Water down... but it does get better.. I was given nausea meds before and after surgery but the gas made the nausea worse.. Just keep walking and keep the faith.. it is getting better everyday for me! Goodluck!

@shrinkingkris, I had my surgery Dec. 10th and I too was very nauseous, Did not receive any thing to drink or eat the day of my surgery but the next day received the broth, Decaf tea/coffee, sf popsicles, apple juice and a Bariatric Advantage fruit punch Protein Drink. Only when I got home yesterday I took the gas x and what a relief it was. I am feeling pretty good but have just a little pressure in my chest area. Have not had pain medication since first night of surgery. I hope all goes well with you! Get you some rest!

Thanks everyone! The nausea has subsided, I really got nauseous when they had given me the dilaudid for pain. I’m home now, took an oral dilaudid and it didn’t do much for pain. Had picked up some liquid Tylenol and gas-x, trying to get the Tylenol down now but gosh is that stuff disgusting 🤮! Suture sites are very sore and have a bit of a headache. Very bloated, but not gassy. The largest incision site was bleeding a little bit so I put a large bandage over it. Still getting up to walk as much as possible.

Had about 2.5 oz of broth w/ a small amount of GENEPRO around 430. Going to try a SF ice pop before bed.

hope everyone is doing well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
