Hey everyone ! I was sleeved this past Tuesday 9/24 and I have an odd question. Was anyone scared to transition into their purée and then soft mushy food phases. Today has been the first day it’s been easier for me to get my Water and Protein down without being in total discomfort ( I know to be expected) but my doctor said starting Friday or Saturday I can slowly start transitioning into puréed food. I don’t know why the thought of actually eating real food even if it’s puréed scares me a little. I don’t want to hurt my new sleeve & I don’t know why I feel like Friday or Saturday is not that far out from my surgery. Anyone else start this phase that quickly? And if so how did you tolerate it. Thanks so much in advance !

PS if anyone has any recipes for this phase I would GREATLY appreciate it !!! Xoxo

That’s odd. I was put on two weeks of full liquids after hospital release. I’m one week passed it and I ha e one week to go. I am starting to get hungry and want food. However if I eat or drink anything I get full right away. Ive had some Soups like Tomato Soup and I had to drink it very slowly and carefully. However it did stay down just fine. I can’t imagine trying solid goods yet. Even thick liquids are tough. I would stick to Protein Shakes and soups for now and just take it slow. I’m looking forward to soft foods though. I e even on a liquid diet for nearly a month.

Just take it slow and don't feel like you have to rush to advance the diet just because the doctor says it is time to do so. As long as you are getting your fluids, Protein and Vitamins down, you can advance at the rate you can tolerate. If it is uncomfortable, back up. Thin the food down, change the food, and/or change the amount. You may only tolerate a Tablespoon at a time. That is OK. Just listen to your body.

Mushy and pure foods were pretty easy. It is the soft foods that are a little more scary but I am doing fine with most everything I have tried. Not that I have tried much lol. Ground beef can be a but tricky but I can eat it in small amounts/small pieces. 23 days post op

Hey all, I had gastric sleeve surgery on 9/24 as well. My doctor said 7 to 10 days on full liquid. I'll see him on Monday and will let you all know if he says I can switch. After training myself on the liquids I'm looking forward to the pureed food. I think I'm going to start with baby food. Are you keeping your liquids down comfortably?

I also had surgery on 9/24. I'm on a liquid diet for two weeks. I cannot wait to move on to pureed and/or soft foods. Weirdest thing. I'm craving cottage cheese and chicken livers. Have no idea what that's about. But I'm also interested in how others would progress to food as quick as 1 week. Seems a little fast but I'm guessing your body will tell you if it's time or not. Good luck. Do report back.

I just got moved to the soft foods and it's intimidating because my dietician said that anything that can be mashed with a fork is ok. I can have ground beef just not a steak. Obviously there are some foods totally off limits like rice but I can move to salads and such at the 6-8 week post op mark. I told her I just don't feel hungry and she said it's ok not to push the issue so long as I'm meeting my Water and Protein goals each day.

I would think you might be craving chicken livers because your body is lacking iron...might want to check on that

Cottage cheese is a great choice. So is liver. I also craved it and found it to be the easiest of all meats to get down. I found calves liver to be very mild and quite tasty. Sprouts has it frozen in sealed individual 4 oz packs that keep really well. I would break off 2 oz at a time and keep the rest frozen. Easy to eat and the Iron is well absorbed.

Finally! Got put on soft food today. Had shredded chicken with salsa for lunch and a single chicken liver for dinner. It was amazing.

My second follow up is next Wed, and I have been bad.... I already transitioned myself to sorta solid food as soft wasn't cutting it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
