Pre-op Not Dating until Post

Recommended Posts

Anyone else hold off dating until after surgery? I have decided to wait 6 mos. post to start again. I just feel like I need to focus on my weight loss. It is hard because for some reason I keep getting asked out. Where were they before I decided to do this! J/K I am grateful.

Me too! I'm planning on waiting 6 months. I just want to be really comfortable with what and how much I can eat/drink before going out with someone new. I would be mortified if I all of a sudden needed a bathroom on date!

LOL! I have been lurking around Match.com for a couple days. I just want to go have some fun with another adult. I may end up dating earlier than anticipated too.

I’m going the same route. I want to feel comfortable with myself before I bring someone else into my life

I've been divorced 5 years, still looking for love. I'm pre-op. I have super high standards. I want anyone who I have a relationship to love me, not just my hot body. LOL I've gone on quite a few first dates but only a couple second dates and even fewer thirds. Looks like I have to kiss a lot of frogs before I find the one!

I am to! I am having surgery on 9/4/20 and I think I will wait until I can eat solid foods and have a hang on my diet and exercise routine to put myself back out there. Not because I’m afraid but because I want my focus to stay on myself during this time .

Agreed! I want to wait until I feel more comfortable with my body, my routine, what I can eat before I try and add someone to the mix! I went out with my daughter and had half the inside of one taco... I can't imagine explaining that to someone on a first date!!

This is happening to me aswell. I have to keep postponing meet ups , etc. I just feel like 6months from now i will be in a better shape mentally, physically and emotionally. How do u reject the guys with out being rude?

It’s so hard because if you meet someone pre-op who adores you the way you are (whether it’s just their preference or they have a bbw fetish) things are bound to change post op, not only with your relationship dynamics but with you personally. I broke up with my last bf a year ago and I really want to focus on getting in a good place post op where I feel ready. It sucks though, when it’s natural I think to crave affection.

I'm curious if anyone else decided to hold off on dating until after their weight loss surgery. I've decided to wait six months post-op before I start dating again. I feel like I need to focus on my weight loss journey and ensure I'm in a good place physically and mentally before diving back into the dating scene.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
