Stomach pain 10 weeks post Gastric bypass

Recommended Posts

I had my MGB on July 15 , and recovery went well for a while , first 4 weeks were solid free weeks , i introduced solids slowly after

Steaks and burgers give me a very hard time so i stayed away from them. By hard time i mean stabbing and colic pain in my stomach right above the umbilicus and to the left

I am now getting the same severe colic pain on a daily basis despite being careful with the solids , only Soups , salads , and chicken , no meat

I also get severe pains if i stay a long time without eating , especially in the morning if i dont eat Breakfast right after waking up

I do take some gasix , and some gaviscon , it helps a bit but not much

I am not doing well on hydrating , some days are good some arent

Any idea if this pain is normal first few months post surgery ? Anything in particular should i take or do , thank you very much in advance for your thoughts

You need to either go to the ER or call your surgeon right now. This could potentially be serious--especially if you are not able to hydrate any longer.

Quit eating salads right now. Eat easy foods, soft, well-cooked. If you eat anything at all. Don't eat til talking to doc.

Thanks FluffyChix, what i meant by not doing well on hydrating , is that some days i just forget to drink enough Water , but i have no issues drinking water ... i saw on this forum that some say dehydration can cause such pain

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
