Low BPM now.

Recommended Posts

I have reached my goal weight. Combo of being a hard core follow the diet, walking, rucking, weighty lifting, sword fighting martial arts, and running. This year, I am running particularly better that last fall. Faster, and better form. A 38 min 5k to a decent 31:30.

Now, I have a low BPM of 42. 6 months ago it was 60. I happened to met another physically active bariatric patient, and he has a 37 BPM. Then, met another patient that has 45. Not barycadis. All of us are healthy, and have awesome blood pressure.

Is this a "thing" with bariatric patients after loosing a lot of weight? Is there something about having better blood flow or something?

Wow! Congrats to you hon! That is soooooo impressive! So excited for you about your success and for being active and healthy!!

Mine was 45 in the hospital this past Friday before surgery. I "rawlk" (run slowly at 3mph LOL *snick*) for an hour+ per day plus do core exercises 2 x per week.

The doc said if I'm not symptomatic then no need to worry.

The only thing I do have is my ankles/feet are swelling (they think from venous insufficiency from the weight loss), but also sometimes my toes and balls of my feet ache tremendously (beyond my neuropathy from chemo).

Do you have any toe aching or discoloration or swelling in your feet or toes?

I think it may just be a "thing" with bariatrics who are active?

Will be interested to hear from others!!

People in good cardiovascular health will have lower BPM. Congrats on getting healthy!!!

Lower resting heart rates indicate more efficient heart function and better cardiovascular fitness. In fact, an athlete's resting heart rate may even be as low as 40 beats per minute.

Asymptomatic sinus bradycardia after WLS (GOOGLE it). Nothing to worry about. Pretty normal.
I'll have to Google that.....

No discoloration on ankles or calfs. If anything less color than pre-op. I had what the surgeon said was 'iron staining" from poor blood circulation.

I think I am going to get an inexpensive heart rate monitor.that is worn around the chest for better accuracy than the notoriously bad wrist-watch.monitors. At least for when I go jogging.

I bit late on the reply, but for physically fit people, heart rates in the mid 40's are fairly common occurrence. Always have it checked by your doctor to be sure that is all it is, but once you know it is "normal" for you, I wouldn't worry too much about it. My son just lost some weight and became much more physically active and has noticed the same thing. And he was only a bit overweight... not a bariatric patient.

Goody- mine runs 90/ 55 or 60, before Bariatrics I was border- line Hypertensive, now that I am smaller my Heart doesn't have to pump so hard to get the blood around ( You're Welcome 💓) I've learned to move slower in case I'm a little Dizzy, figure I could still topple over even at my oh So Lovely 180,pounds, last thing I'll hear is "There She Goes- Everybody give Her room to Land" but still,IT'S WORTH IT TO BE SMALLER, RENOVATED And closer to a healthy STATE!😝👍😝

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
